Since FBL came onto the scene!
Agreed. As stated with the other feedback, the hobby is now turnkey and not fraught with technical challenges and underperforming hardware.
I'll tell you one thing though... if RR goes down... my interest in the hobby will go down with it.
I work hard hand crafting custom software to make your daily RC-Heli read as efficient as possible. Still more work to do. That is until my line of credit is exhausted and I am forced to get a real job.
Just about every single mfg has a facebook page that I could think of.
Yes mandatory for any business these days. Having one popular goto place (such as RR) for their specialized product discussions has merit and efficiencies.
But as someone newer to this hobby.. I feel that is important to have information from other builds, and tips for tuning your helicopters and motors, etc. without RR.. none of my birds would have gotten off the ground. The information on this site / forum is priceless to so many people and was a huge part of their life.
Tell that to the vendors. For the IRCHA weekend, vendors are spending two or three times the marketing dollars compared with what they would spend all year with RR. Crazy!

Thanks all for the continued feedback.

GoFundMe

Mark, have you thought about starting a GoFundMe page to help offset costs for now. I'm sure you'd get strong support from the pilots to help you out. I will try to see what I can do to help out.

No it's not sustainable. For any longer term success, the RR business model will only survive deriving income from banner advertising. If the vendors want to run their online marketing exclusively from their Facebook pages then RR does not have a future.

Thanks for offering.

Ultimately, it is the pilot participation and membership that keeps things rolling. If participation to topics declines, then pilots will find it elsewhere. If membership declines, then advertisers will find it elsewhere.

I continue to receive overwhelming positive feedback on RR's design. One part of the design is an elegant solution to Rep spam. No more pinking or deleting of Rep's postings. Reps can now freely post about their products. Other sites care less about vendor spam (in the main view) thus see more Rep participation. If a swamp and the lowest common denominator are good enough then so be it.

They should do a separate flybarred and nitro only Ircha!

I would say get rid of the tail gyro aswell but while it would be fun and challenging for the pilot it would make it pretty boring for the spectators.

60% of the time, it works every time!

I spent some time giving feedback to Mark at IRCHA about RR. What I find funny is that almost all social media is still just user generated content. I have posted on FB about what heli should I buy 600N or N5c. I had a few likes with no comments back. Either I need more friends that fly heli's (who could not use more friends or I am just a dirtbag that no one likes lol) or I was posting in a place that it was not going to be seen (not enough followers). For sure the forward advancement of heli's has hit a new high because the airframes are all about the same and you can only eliminate so many parts, and with the electronics easier than ever.

So in many ways it would appear that it is just differences in platforms and how they interface with the user. I am not saying that one is better than another just that in concept they all do the same thing.

Manufactures still need a place to present there product. While they can create other social network accounts they still need to get in the mix of the core crowd. This presents many problems as how would I advertise a new heli or radio or gadget in this market? Forums create the buzz around the product to a targeted audience. The digital footprint has changed and many industries are trying to figure out how to incorporate these changes and how they should spend there money. How many would advertise on am radio today?

I was at IRCHA for the first time this year; I just got home today.

I have been to several 3D competitions and videoed all of the flights. It is hard work for me as I don't use a tripod. When I have watched others using a tripod they are unable to keep up with the action.

I intended to take my camera to IRCHA but in the end decided not to. The expression becoming a slave springs to mind. I didn't know what to expect and didn't know if I would of been allowed to get flight line side of the netting to make it worth while.

There was a lot of great flights on Saturday and the only way to know what would be worthy of videoing would of been to capture all the flights.

I would of basically missed the whole event being behind my camera.

I would love to cover the event but would want compensating for missing the event at the same time.

The number of views of my videos is very small. They could all be bad but folk are too polite to critique.

So in summary I can see why no-one rushes out to capture the flights.

hey Mark, you sure know how to tune-up a site, RR is one smooth running site, if you want a side job maybe RCU will have you fix their problems, a lot of double postings over there, and I sent a couple PMs over there that were not received

Lot of mention of Facebook on this thread and about how it is "the thing." Quite frankly, Facebook is absolutely horrible for presenting a product or as a storefront for a business. Facebook has not been designed to be such, and probably never will be. Now, if you are one of those people that have 500+ "friends", well, then you probably don't know any different.

Are banner ads an option? Not that I like them, but if that keeps RR floating, it could be worth it.

IMHO I got sick of the fighting that seemed too prevalent on RR. This is a hobby for me and if a few are bickering to prove their point, right or wrong, and not contributing to a positive discussion then I sign off. If a rep can contribute with positive, general information or help on a specific issue and not just plug a product, then I never understood why this was not allowed. I know a few others that share the same opinion, they don't frequent RR anymore.

The site has come a long way, it would be great if some way it could thrive again.

"How many would advertise on am radio today?"

As opposed to FM radio?

A lot in comparison.

At night, AM frequencies can "bounce" off the ionosphere and reach an audience in a several 100 mile radius(even farther with directional antennas)....whereas FM is only "line of site" due to its radio "horizon" of the transmitting antenna height.

My definition of a banner ad is what is already being displayed on RR.

I react to Attn:RR feedback right away. See an unfriendly post, click it's Attn:RR link.

It has been years since the pink posts and Rep blocking. Now if Reps want to promote product it gets re-categorized within the appropriate forum. So there is way less drama on this subject matter.

Thanks and hopefully my continued software development will pay off.

Are you saying there is video of IRCHA for 2017? I don't see that anywhere, nor do I see video for 2016 come to think of it. I just looked in RRTV and in the IRCHA "forum" on the right side of the main page. Other than that, I'm not sure where I would look.

I saw a list of event videos and photos - 2002 - 2015 in another forum.

Maybe people aren't viewing cause that can't find it?

Derrick Threatt-Filming

I know that Derrick Threatt was there filming this year. I suspect we will see some videos at some point, but I am not sure where they will be posted.

You are hurting my feelings. Haven't you seen me under the green towel filming with the help of a $9K tripod?

That's this topic. 14 (IRCHA) posts. There is no RR video for IRCHA this year or last. As I have repeatedly stated, the economics are upside down and unsustainable.

Hey Mark is it like 150F under that towel? See you at Ircha and a funfly in Texas. Liked the one where Leon Luke tried to attack you with the Vibe..

Always been good video from you.
