I read that. It's sad that someone should do something like this knowing that it was a completely boneheaded thing to do.

The link above to the article about Carpenter's extreme recklessness had no comments. I assume this idiot will claim that he was trying to get footage to sell to the media...or some other BS.

Regardless, I wanted to see people's comments about this.

Here is a USA "yesterday" link with comments:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...fire/446391001/

While most were negative, others made comments that he was within his rights, etc.....

So, this idiot has a lot of company.

I didn't bother to google his name any further....to see what other sites allowed comments on this subject.....to see how many other idiots there are in this world.

so tell me, if you own a home in the area and authorities don't have the time to tell you where the fire is moving and you fly a drone up to see you'll be thrown in jail and the keys thrown away? even if you don't own a home there.

Why the f do people in monkey suits always think they are the last word on everything, because they collect a paycheck and god forbid you put them out of work by bringing Jesus Christ around again, who btw could conjure a rain storm, or fan the flames even more so,

are you people so small in the big picture, someone's got to do it, provide answers where no other can be trusted so people can see for themselves not like hysterical chimps in a cage, it's REPORTING and the public has a right to know.

OK the most they came up with was a broken window, sorry, the fire fighters and cops should hire the guy to provide near instant inexpensive aerial views from other perspectives, drones are tools nowerdays.

Must have been 14 planes endangered but wait, how far was he and his ap from the scene of the crime? fire?

The drone was circling a plane? people aren't real are they?

smoke makes rain, it's nature, Nature was here first and will be here long past man has perished completely, it's the nature of the beast, get out of the way.

Some things really burn me up said the forest to the animals.

That wasn't the case at all.....so that's useless speculation...

And, if you don't own a home there, you don't need to be getting in the way.....much less acting like an idiot flying a drone.

The firefighters know where the fires is moving from their airborne assets.

Isn't that obvious?

yeah I know, but the idea of endangering all 14 planes (only supposing there were that many from the amount of stripes against the fellow) or even only 14 lives in half as many water bombers and or sighting craft fact of the matter there has never been a hit and crash in a collision between drone and aircraft PERIOD let alone a collision at all anywhere, and therefore no basis in fact of any element of endangerment, you understand that don't you?

They got him out of their hair temporarily but he and others like him will be back, nature of the beast.

reminds me of this song,

Watch at YouTube

Make certain it has bright led lights on it facing in four basic directions and up and down so at least it can be seen and avoided by anyone or thing also up there and tracked from the ground and above.

Ever been in a passenger jet and passed another one coming from the other way, by a couple of miles? is it a near miss or sharing the friendly skies (and I hear there are all kinds of close proximity incidents all the time and no one is hurt whatsoever).

Be reasonable.

"never been a hit and crash with a collision between drone and aircraft"

So, then it's ok to be reckless with drones?

Or anything else?

Just because you "want to"...?

but the whole argument against him is lost on whether he actually endangered anyone, from a statistical and reality check standpoint what would you think? Why would you want to live in a tinder box besides? and the faa guidelines aren't "LAWS" again.

What get's me is that all the upper educated and uniformed people in the world get it in their heads they own the world, NO, the Lord does, bankers too, lol, so who you going to put your faith in (faith being a core belief of better things that are now and those to come).

Ironic since so many pilots say a prayer before taking off.

It does nothing to throw the book at the guy but lose credibility down the line. like he was a single entity mobbed by a pack of jackals for taking some beautiful pictures.

hmm, not even any aviation manufacturer has been willing to destructively test a drone against an aircraft, now who's to blame.

They do destructive testing on engines with bird carcasses which can destroy an engine. A bird strike through through a light aircraft windshield could be incapacitating, FAA TFR will ban all flight in a fire fighting environment for good reason. This guy is going to be in deep ****, deservingly so.
It is all about the physics and after manys years as a professional pilot I had my share of feathered object impacts.I am not a fan of this drone craze but respect the right to fly them when the operator follows the rules.

So here's another example of stupidity . . .

Who in their right mine would direct and guide auto traffic in such a manner that vehicles come toward each other at speeds of 50 mph (closing velocity 100 mph) and the only thing helping them not collide head on is a painted line on the roadway ?

Maybe if we paint some lines in the air then everything will be ok ?

"sense and avoid" means you got to have senses or your in deep trouble.

Speaking of birds, how many foul are in the air at any given moment compared to rc aircraft of any kind.

It's not like the drone has a big magnet on it and just like the movies is going to stick itself on an aircraft.

You know racing apv's are only 100grams now, all it has to do is hoist a cell phone on a gimble, maybe not even gimble it for lighter all up.

Embrace it or be left behind in the rotor wash.

I don't see any reason to fault one guy like piranha to a hapless victim, sure some doods aren't all wise everyone knows that (we can all take a look in the mirror right now). Does he know about tfr's?

Face it, drones are highly advertised, accessible, easy to use, gadgety, affordable, most part harmless, new, perfect for apv stability, and too good to ignore regarding sales and apv use. It's a dream tool of image capture from the air, have toys will,,,,,,,.

ohh yeah, meant to add not all persons are up to, know, or follow high command either out of ignorance or something else, even an unbroken dog won't obey a drill sarg yelling so loud he can be heard in all 52 states, lol. He'll just cower in fear of loosing his eardrums and wonder wtf is up the sarg's arse.

Now what will happen is some lawyer will get behind him and sue for abuse of power. One thing to confiscate his toys, another to martyr him.

14 felonies and a bond of $25,000.

Are you kidding me? something does not compute. We don't have enough facts to even begin to determine this case. How is this drone capable of flying circles around a fire fighting plane. Even a cub used as a spotter would be difficult to stay with.

Guess we will hear more on the sixth.

Let there be no doubt, it is not legal to fly in an area restricted by the FAA. Do so at your peril. Yes, FAA regulations are just as enforceable as driving laws.

You don't compute.....and what do you mean "we", it's you that doesn't have the facts.

14 felonies....14 firefighting aircraft in their squadron that had to be grounded....1 felony/aircraft....

Understand now?

Read the news....

Besides, you're in favor of all FAA regs....

The sheriff's office said an Air Attack Pilot supervisor encountered the drone on Wednesday, and it started circling his plane when the official tried to see where the drone was coming from.
Hmmm. Either this pilot is completely crazy, or there is a huge marijuana farm burning and he inhaled way too much smoke.
