So that the VControl TX can be used on this particular flight simulator.

Not interested at all in upgrading the SIM....that's not an option for me....

Thanks

Using my JR12X TX, I plug the RF6.5 "Interlink" TX into my PC using its USB connector.

I then must run the RF6.5 SIM software....and press the "reset button to "activate" the Interlink TX....

I then plug the Interlink TX to the JR12X TX's DSC "jack" using the Interlink's "plug" which turns on the JR12X TX.

Then, on the RF6.5 menu, I select a "8 or 9 channel" TX from the "drop down" menu...."calibrate" my JR12X TX....and set up the proper channel mapping.

After all this, I can use the PC's "space bar" to perform a reset after crashing....set up "fake wind", etc.

And everything works just fine....

The VControl TX only has the USB interface.....and the VControl TX's manual states that the VControl can operate as a "game controller"....after selecting that function on the VControl TX(manual page 19).

My confusion is that I have to hit the "reset" button on the Interlink TX to get the JR12X TX to work properly.

Can I simply just eliminate the RF6.5 Interlink TX entirely?

And run the RF6.5 SIM software properly.

I have an "authentic" RF6.5 system installed and it's software's S/N entered properly.....not some software "ripoff" situation.

I haven't tried this yet, as I just received my VControl system yesterday and am not yet completely familiar with it....

I should have specified this in my first post....so that my specific situation would be clear.

Thanks for any help.....even if what I want to do is not possible...just don't want to waste time...and RF tech support is closed on the weekend.

I searched through the RF website, and the have the "pin outs" for the Interlink cable "plug".....that plugs into the DSC "jack" on a typical "field" TX....

The Interlink cable plug "tip" is the "signal"....and the other part of the plug is "ground"....no power wire is shown.

I suppose when you plug into the TX(JR12X in my case), the TX "senses" this and it powers up(with no RF).

And then when "selected" in the RF software, it works after the Interlink's "reset" button is pressed for it's "activation".

Now, my idea is to locate a 3.5mm "jack" that will "mate" with the Interlink TX's output cable that plugs into the JR12X's DSC jack...and then get a "mini" USB plug that will mate with the VControl's USB input port.

I can get those tomorrow....and just make my own adapter cable specific for the VControl TX.

I wish I could find the VControl mini-USB "pin out" diagram just to be sure....

A generic "mini-USB" connector of the type used by the VControl TX has the following "pinouts":

Pin 1 = VCC(power)
Pin 2 = Signal(data -) data+ & data- forming a "differential"
Pin 3 = Signal(data +) signal pair.
Pin 4 = ID
Pin 5 = Ground

So, since the Interlink "plug" has only 2 connections....I would assume that:

Pin 1 is not used(open)
Pin 2 or pin 3 is the "signal", with the other "grounded"
Pin 4 is not used(ID within the Interlink for reset activation)
Pin 5 is ground

Just don't want to "smoke" the new VControl TX....

Anybody know the pin designations for the VControl mini-USB connector?.....

I posted this question on the VStabi VControl site....

So, I'll see what they say and report back.

I searched all 36 pages of that forum, but couldn't find anything....but I don't speak German....

You don't need to speak German....

But, better start brushing up on your Spanish !!!

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Edit--I read through your first posts too quickly. Now, I see you're only having issue with the red button and trying to bypass interlink completely.

See the red button mod below. As for bypassing interlink, just give up on that. That's realflight's copyright protection. The software simply will not work without authentication first (unless you take piracy measures which I assume you're not implying)
--end edit

have you thought about wireless sim? That works fine. All you need is a spare vbar (if you converted to NEO you may have several old units laying around like I did); and a satellite (ok, so that's not so cheap); and just solder up a few wires...or just buy Mikado's interface for $110 that includes dummy vbar, sat and wiring.

when I soldered up my own wiring (keep in mind, for the wireless interface) Eddi gave me the following info:
USB is power supply only, + and – 5 V, no magic.
The audio jack is only ground and signal, ground to sleeve and ring (stereo) or sleeve only (mono), signal to tip.
also, to avoid having to hit the red button all the time, I opened up the RF interlink radio and made this modification. Now, I can stuff the RF interlink behind my computer out of sight.

One odd sidenote that might be peculiar to my computer..not sure. But, every time I reboot my computer I have to unplug the USB to the interlink or the machine hangs at POST.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Cuda, after a bunch of "searching", I realized that's RF copyright protection....lol

Just ordered the SIM interface from Mikado USA....somehow, I didn't see it in their webshop.....

Posted the questions at Vstabi and Eddie posted some helpful links, similar to what you mentioned.

I didn't realize the VC USB port outputs digital signals.....and that other TXs output analog signals via the DSC jack.

So, the VSIM is doing that conversion....and a simple cable as I described above wouldn't have worked anyway....

Hopefully, I should be good to go now.

I always like to SIM with the TX I will be flying with...

I didn't want to get into upgrading my computer to be able to use the RF-X SIM....I found that out that my current system cannot support the RF-X SIM.

Thanks

I think you can still buy the 6.5 to 7 upgrade. X is considered a completely different product and is not in the original upgrade path. But 7 (and up to 7.5 once purchased) is a decent physics upgrade and doesn't require any more of the machine than 6.5 does.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Does that upgrade also require a new Interlink TX?

That's good....I hope I can then upgrade my RF6.5 to RF7(or RF7.5) via a download....

I don't mind doing that at all....

Must get a new RF7 or RF7.5 Interlink for the S/W upgrade to work.

And it has been discontinued with the advent of RFX.

At least I now know this.....

There was a copy of RF 7 upgrade on eBay earlier.

Still, I gotta think that's bogus info on the controller. I'm running an interlink G4 transmitter and am current with 7.5 with upgraded software.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Maybe, I was just saying what they told me at Great Planes....

Just want something that's sufficient and to work with both my JR12X TX and my new VC TX....
