I have just bought an align 500 dominator with the align GPRO FBL system I am putting it into a Align Agusta A-109 500 Scale Fuselage. Does anyone know how do I connect the retractable undercarriage?

Regards Bob

Hey Bob.

The simple answer is no, you can't control the retracts through the Gpro sadly.
However what you can do is use a seperate receiver connected to the Gpro (assuming you're using sats connected to the Gpro currently?) This seperate receiver will then give you the full channel outputs sent from your transmitter to use as required. Such as a channel to control your retracts.

Thanks CoachE and Ian for the info.

Ian, any idea of a compatible receiver that would do from Spektrum please? I have JRDSX11 transmitter.

Hey CoachE.

It is a 6 channel yes, but the 6 channel listing includes the hidden GEAR for heading/rate mode switching and govenor on/off via the Tx channel 7.
There is no external channel output available from the Gpro except for the main fligth controls required.
Thanks CoachE and Ian for the info.

Hey Bob.

You're welcome buddy, glad to try and help.

For receiver choice, a Spektrum AR8000 or above would do. Maybe depending on cost difference, grab a 9 channel or above for future expansion with additional scale details such as lights etc. :-)

Here is a 8 channel unit in the UK;

Or 9 channel for comparison;

Helli Ian,

Sorry another question, there seems to be a shortage everywhere of 8000 series receivers. but eventually I have found a Spektrum DSMX R8010T 8CH Air Integrated Telemetry Receiver. Would I connect it up to the Align Gpro via the Xbus or is there another way of connecting them both together?

Hello All thanks for the information. I also spoken to Align-trex.uk today and they said the say. Connected as per the diagram on page three but had to also connect the satellite reciever to the receiver other wise it wouldn't bind. Then I tried a few things. I disconnected the two cables between the receiver and the GPro and left a servo connected to the receiver for the gear and it still functioned. so it looks like you gon't need the extra receiver to GPro connections apart from picking up the power out of the GPro. Also removed one of the two sattys from the GPRo otherwise I would hve the receiver, the GPro and three sattys running.

Ill try it this weekend.

Regards

Bob

Hey Bob.

Sorry didn't get an email saying you'd replied.

Ah ok, so you're using the seperate Spektrum receiver to solely control the undercarriage and the Gpro is still doing the FBL and receiver duties for the flying surfaces?
I think I have read about binding more than one receiver bound to one Tx to do specific jobs, but I'm not sure I'd do so in a helicopter to keep it simple.

If you want to continue down this route I'd suggest leaving the two sats in the Gpro for the control link to helicopter, to assure a good RF link in any orientation.
For anything above a 450 class model you need two antennas (two sats in this case when plugged into the Gpro) minimum. Personally I use 2 sats even on a 450 model, as there is a lot of carbon able to shield one aerial from view easily.
