Whopper

Go with the four stroke. The Whopper requires torque and a big prop to fly well. Along with the pre rotator shaft the torque of the four stroke will benefit you.

Kirk,

Isn't the 150 overkill? Jodini seemed to have his flying beautifully on a Saito 90 or 100.

No question about going with a four stroke for that sound!

By the way, Kirk, what blades do you recommend as replacements for Whoppers?

Kirk uses the flat bottom thin chord blades that were in the old Schluter catalogs. I can't remember what the part number was but I make those blades now and they fly great. Oldnitroman just bought a set for his Whopper from me. I also make replacement canopies for the Whopper and a lot of other vintage Schluters and other helis as well.

Glad to hear you're back up and running! I have a few of your canopies and cooling shrouds for my Heliboy that I got from you a few years back.

Are the flat bottom blades the long blade design that Schluter made as an alternate for the undercambered blades that originally came with the Whopper?

Can you please PM or e-mail me a list of your products and prices?

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

I remember you now. Yes, the blades are the long, narrow, flat bottom blades that were an option. I'm still in the process of getting the plastic shop set back up after almost 6 years of recovering from my accident. I'm still not back 100% and probably won't ever be since the hospitals misdiagnosed my broken neck for 3 years and now I have permanent spinal cord damage in that area.

I'm still working on the new price list and products that I will try and keep on hand and others that I'll do by special order. I'll send you a PM for the blade prices and as soon as I can narrow down a new plastic supplier I'll have a better idea on those prices. Please send me your email address so I can add it to my list.

It's good talking to you.

Randall

I think the case on the 150 is to big, and it has a lot of time on it.

Thanks Cliff, that's what I like to hear about the stuff that I make. I'm glad that you like them.

You got a really good price on the motor. I had to modify the motor mounts on mine to clear the YS 91 4 stroke and mill slots in the rails to work on the gear alignment. The one that I have is still being restored and I'm thinking about going with a YS 105 or 110 4 stroke this time. It should hang on the prop if needed and the extra torque is always welcome in my book. I know that Schluter recommended a .60 2 stroke but I don't know how it would even fly on a 2 stroke.

Excellent!

I forgot to mention that you can certainly understand the back problems. I'm not able to work anymore as I can't lift anything heavier than a coffee cup it seems like. The last surgery that I had in April was number 4 and I'm fused and have rods from T3 all the way to L5 and S1.

I used to walk like a question mark but they have straitened my spine out and it has helped. Good luck with your upcoming surgeries and treatments.

Your back problems sound horrible, guys. I hope you both continue to recover.

A number of years ago I sent a Whopper body to a guy who made a mold to produce fiberglass versions. Randall, do you by any chance know who it was? If not, I can probably do some digging and find out.

Cliff, I would sure sign up for disability asap. It's not much money but it sure beats nothing. When I first had my accident I wasn't able to work at all and my businesses depended solely on me to generate income. I liquidated nearly everything that I had just to live and boy was that an eye opener but it can be done. I went from being able to buy toys whenever I wanted to, to having to evaluate every purchase. One of Doctors which has been a lifelong friend saw what was coming before I fell and suggested that I get my monetary affairs in order. He knew because his back was as bad as mine and then after I fell and broke my neck and broke multiple vertebrae in my back it sealed the deal. Now I have to hunt for bargains in helicopters and focus mainly on the oldies. It's what I started with in the 1970's and it's all that I know. I'm basically a helicopter dinosaur on the edge of extinction. LOL

Tom, I do remember that you were going to have the canopy done in fiberglass but I don't know who it was. The only good fiberglass guy that I know is Chris Patton in Florida. My memory isn't what it was at one time so I'm blaming it on the medications that I take. Ha

Thanks for the well wishes. I am slowly improving which is a good thing. I found a great surgeon and he has done a fantastic job. He treats a lot of the injured pro and college ball players so I thought he might be the one to use.
