Thanks everyone for your help.

Runryder is a wonderful place. I hope Mark is able to keep it!

I also learned that you do not use a bind plug when binding an Ikon2 it's all done through the Ikon unit. I'm not sure on the older models as we were only discussing the Ikon2.

Ok, so I flew my trex700L yesterday.

I have some tuning to do. Holy crap this thing has insane power!
I usually fly 550/600 sized helis and smaller. This is an eye opener as far as power and authority goes compared to my others.

I need to change the rescue to another switch so I can use all my flight modes instead of sacrificing stunt2 on rescue. should be a matter of assigning to a different switch.

But happy to report I got it working with all your guys help and the product support line.

Also, RR is here to stay I just heard.

On a sadder note; I crashed my Blade 600 same day and it hit HARD (both frame sides broke is the worst part) brain fart. The frames are no longer available and stupid expensive so if you have a set laying around you don't want let me know please...lol.

The 700 sizes are great, right?

A lot better visibility.....in addition to other things.

I've been to a semi local heli club's airfield finally, and of course, it's a small club with a small air field. All 3 of the members that were present had 700's and there was even an 770. that being said. . I watch them spin up and I take cover. . all I can see are hi speed katana blades waiting to cut me to pieces. I'm completely awed by the mechanics and capabilities of rc helicopters. But when I hear the owners spit out, "The ESC I want is $900", all wants and dreams of having one vanish. at this point, with the frustrations of learning to setup my 450's and recently destroying my 500 with a tail blow out, basically after one successful flight, I'm almost to the point of saying fk it and throwing them in the trash and getting another plank. I bought a used foamie Extra 300s bnf for $50 and I had more fun with it the first week than I've had with my helicopters in the last 6 months. Beyond discouraged at this point. Biggest hurdle is being able to diagnose an issue in order to know what and where to adjust, tx, linkage, FBL. . It sucks. Can't diagnose without the knowledge that is necessary and there's nobody local to get help from. I've been at it since february on a monthly disabled income of $748. the only helicopters I have that I can fly regularly and enjoy are my ****ty v977 micros. . Sure they're fun. . . as long as an insect doesn't fly by and fart.

"The ESC I want is $900"....

I would guess that it's the Kosmik ESC....

And one would also need a "Prog Unit" to utilize it to its fullest extent....

But.....for what you get....it's worth it...

Easiest programming I've ever had...right out of its box...with a superior SBEC built right into it....and a great governor built right in...in the most robust mechanical package on the market.

But, I use the Jive80 HV ESCs on my 600SX's....just as easy to program...and also with a superior ESC built in...with a governor....but much less pricy....

Sometimes, less hassle...less # of components, is better....for me at least....especially after seeing all the little quirks I've seen here from other ESC users.

Unfortunately, this is a very expensive hobby....so I can understand your position.

yeah, well. . for that kind of money, I think I'd rather go to flight school and learn to fly real helicopters. hard to fathom how it qualifies as a "hobby". Especially when majority of the parts and electronics are manufactured overseas, and once you've given up your money. . if something goes wrong. you MIGHT get the faulty part replaced or warranty serviced. .but you're screwed on the rest of your investment. My experiences have not been fun in the slightest.

Out of the guys I've met in person, the one's having fun are either fully sponsored, or a manufacturer Rep. the guys on the consumer end all seem to be so afraid to do more than hover or simple patterns because of the lack of liability the individual parts manufacturers get away with as standard policy. It's no surprise to me how and why so many manufacturers and models become obsolete overnight.

For the record, I'm neither sponsored...nor am I a rep....

I've learned, over the years, that if I "rush" the build....I'll end up with a lot of issues.

One cannot take any shortcuts, or one will end up with a disaster.

Whether it's with a fixed wing aircraft, or a heli....a heli is even more complicated to build, also.....imo

Not speaking about you, but I can't tell you how many times I see people making bad decisions at the field.....before they even take off.

I see the "quality" with which they build, and am not surprised at their poor results.

And the worst part is....that I don't dare mention any of this to them....because they "know best". So I gave up trying many moons ago...

FWIW

And I wish you the best at your endeavors.

I appreciate it EEngineer. I've actually found a lot of help and insight from your comments throughout threads here on RR. Like I stated early in my tirade. . . just beyond discouraged. and still cannot let it go. even just now read something that might have been the contributing factor to my 500's demise. ESD. and like in the thread I was reading. . it didn't take place until the pilot switched to IU2. This is both mind easing regarding possibly NOT faulty gyro. . at same time. . alarming. . more to consider going wrong. . DOES IT EVER END!?!?! All I want to do is fly. . I've got the mechanical building and setup down pat. heaven knows I have bought every darn tester, gauge, specialty tool, and jig imaginable. I have a rolling 3 stack tool box just for my heli crap. Sure would like to be able to leave the darn thing closed for a change. . at least one time for starters. Always a pleasure and with my gratitude for both your insight and sarcasm!!

Everybody has a "run" of bad luck.....

It's just part of the learning curve, I guess.

I'd rather know I dumbthumbed it than not know WTF happened.
