Ikon2 setup

Ok so I've now spoke with Castle Creations tech about the ESC setup and He told me it was to be setup in the Ikon2 setup screen.

I may have to call one more time to remember the setting differences for fixed throttle curves vs. Governor modes. I like to try both and see the results for myself. Most of my heli's are fixed curves. Keep in mind I'm a sport flyer and an occasional attempt at 3D..... at least until I break down and buy a Simulator (I know I should have had one years ago)

Next is trying to understand Autolevel and Rescue I've never had them before. Is Rescue activated from a switch and if so how the heck do I set that up? Also the autolevel; not really sure what it is or how to set it up.

Thanks guys

Try the internal gov....if it has it....

You'll never go back....

And yes, definitely get SIM....it's totally worth every penny....

Get a SIM that you can use the TX that you fly with....

Rescue Ikon2

Ok, so I even called Ikon2.

My problem is getting the flight modes to move the green bar in the Ikon setup mode. The green bar won't move with the flight mode switch. Ikon2 told me their not sure how to do it in my DX9.

I watched a video where the guy assigned a switch to Aux2 in the Governor area of the Tx and assign +100--0--neg100. But does that mean you can't use Gov on the heli?

I use a Brain v1 with rescue up date and a single spektrum dsmx sat. I've never experienced signal loss so far. since I'm new to helis, I'm repairing and re-setting up quite often. It's not consistent, but yes, spektrum rx's and sats are recommended to have a few feet of distance when binding. The flying styles are preset DR/expo settings in the fbl. If you're using the wizard, stick with the stock settings and tweak them in advanced settings once you've tried them out. The internal gov for brain/ikon works great.

For a sim, I use heli-x. the flight characteristics are really good and it's got me from playing lawn darts to figure 8's and basic barrel rolls, flips, and loops in 6 months. Nice thing about heli-x is that you can download it for free and if you decide to keep it and unlock multiple models, it's the cheapest sim. I believe I ended up paying around $60 with free updates AND you can fly with other pilots online in heli-x.

On mine, I assigned aux2 to the FM switch in Tx. had to reverse order of flight styles in ikon settings because 0 position on switch is position 2 in ikon setup. I enable gov and assigned headspeeds in the flight style page of ikon setup and then I assigned aux3 to trainer button for rescue.

I am not sure who you are talking to when you say "I called iKON 2".

But I can tell you definitively, the DX9 is the pretty much the same as the DX8 & DX18.
The DX6i and the DX7 gen2 are also closely related to each other.

Also, all the iKON and Brain gyros are identical.
They are both made by MSH in Italy and use the same code and have the same functions / features.

If you have an iKON 2, then that is identical to my Brain 2.

I use the Brain 2 with Trex 700N, Trex 600N, Trex 600E Pro and Goblin 380.

And, I use a DX9 transmitter for all of them.

To get full functionality from the iKON 2 gyro, you need to use the Spektrum satellite receivers with your DX9.
In that case, you get 8 channels and can map them as you see fit.

If you try to use a traditional, external, receiver, you will not get full functionality on the gyros. You lose the governor and the channel mapping.

If you want to get telemetry from the iKON 2 back to the DX9, you do need to use the external SPM4649T,but it is connected to the iKON 2's SRXL port and is not "really" a traditional external receiver.

The Castle Creations "Castle Link Live" is included with the Edge line of ESC. The Talon has limited support compared to the Edge.

I use the Edge Lite and the Edge HV and both support telemetry through the Brain 2 and back into the DX9.

Believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear.
Fake News will be the downfall of our Republic!

I specifically spoke with Jody from the Ikon support phone number off their website. Jody himself told me the DX9 was a different animal than the DX6-7-8 his words NOT MINE.
He told me he didn't know how to help me with setting up a DX9 "The DX9 does all kinds of different programming he wasn't familiar with", specifically getting the flight setting green highlight to move off my flightmode switch (I guess assigning to the switch he meant)

I have it all bound no problems...I'm all set with that now. thank you everyone. I'm working through getting the other problems now.

No Hammer!!!

I was at the same point with mine and made a post stating so on HF. The next day I was contacted by someone that uses nothing but ikon/brain and spektrum. He called me on the phone and walked me through the setup. I had spent 7 weeks trying to figure it out on my own. .Once you get it the first time it's a piece of cake afterwards. hang in there!!!!

Assigning Flight Mode Switch

If you notice the default for Aux2 that by default switches the flight "style" in ikon settings is assigned to the Aux2/gov switch. First you have to un-assign Aux2 from gov switch, then you can assign it to flightmode switch.

Hold down the roller and turn on your dx9 to enter system setup. make sure you're on the correct model. Then go to Sw Select. Set Gov to Inh. Then on F Mode, set Aux2. THAT will move the green flight style highlight to work on your flight mode switch. Only thing I haven't figured out is WHY the switch positions are reversed between setup software and physical switch position. Just reverse your settings in the setup software 1=3, 2=2, 3=1. Then the physical switch position for Normal will be the bottom highlighted settings and IU2 will be normal IN THE IKON PROGRAM. Will be standard on your DX9.

WOOHOO

I JUST brainfarted and gave it a try and figured out the reverse of switch postitions in Spektrum DX8. Should be same for dx9. . So like my previous post says. go into system setup, make sure you're on the correct model you're setting up. Select Sw Setup, set Gov to Inh, Then set F Mode to Aux2. I use Aux3 for rescue on Trainer button. go back to main screen. Now click roller to bring model setup. Select servo setup. click Travel and scroll to Reverse, click to select reverse, then go to Throttle and scroll to Aux2, Click Aux2 and it will reverse the channel so that the switch positions are in the proper sequence and you can setup the ikon normally without having to reverse the settings for flying styles.

Took me a minute of watching tv for it to come to mind, I tried it and tested my f-mode switch and it works like it's suppose to!!!

Thank you everyone for your help.

The instructions; I worked with Jody again this afternoon and the instructions you gave are exactly how to setup on DX6-7-8.......but not the DX9.

On the DX9 you need to assign aux2 to switch B to get it to work right. This will allow the "Ikon2" flight setup to change off your "DX9" flight mode switch (which is switch B).
