Would you use Shellite with oil mix to run your motor. I know a person with an Hirobo Bell47g which has a Tanaka 24cc two stroke motor and he run,s it on shellite with 35% oil mix. I though this was cleaning fluid, not motor fuel. how good is it with the piston and the ring,s in the motor?

I had to google Shellite, as I have never heard of it. The first thing I got was a highly explosive chemical used to fill the warhead of artillery shells. I finally ran across a wikipedia article saying that it is napatha in AU.
I use Coleman camp stove fuel in my gasser. Coleman is napatha. I use it so I can store and transport my heli without the smell of gasoline. I use it in my chainsaws also. I mix the oil the same as gasoline. Runs the same as gasoline.

I do not think you mean a 35% oil mix. That would be far too much in a gasoline/naptha fueled heli engine. I suspect that you probably meant a 35:1 oil mix (this works out to just a 2.85% mix).

Just as important is the TYPE of oil used in the mix....

When I flew gassers, I ran Amsoil 100 % synthetic....

It's been a long time since those days but I recall somewhere around 60-70:1 ratio. I mixed up one batch to run in my gassers (Heli and planks) and I used the same mix to run in all of my 2 cycle lawn equipment..... (mower, weed whacker, chain saw, hedge clippers, etc.....)

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Bad run.

Sorry Oldfart you are correct, 35to1 and not 35%. I have been running 25to1 with stand petrol and Stihl red oil as I did use synthetic oil and you can see what happened in the photo above! burnt the **** out of the rings. And yes I did have the correct ratio of oil to petrol.

That Stihl red is not their top of the line oil . Try their Ultra (blue) and try running the carb a little richer .....

I have been running Stihl red in my Mongoose for 8 years at 37 to 1 with no problems. You are going to get a million opinions on oil.

the correct fuel/oil mix in the Hirobo manual is
25:1
it will run fine with amsoil at 83:1
run the engine settings lean and you'll have problem no matter what
oil type and ratio

Best advice yet

I ran the Amsoil at 37 to 1 way back in the day but it got too hard to find(compared to Stihl). I just couldn't run the Amsoil 100 to 1.
