I there someone who is still specialized in custom painting? Your input! I crushed my Heli few weeks back and in need of custom painting. I am open for recommendation. Thanks in advance.

Try Insane Canopy for the very best.
Also you have CanoMod, Fusuno and few of the factory options (like Mikado, if you need one for a Logo).

If you're looking for something beyond a typical pattern type paint job you might want to check out some local options. There's a custom airbrushing shop where I live and many tattoo artists also do custom airbrushing in house or on the side. Most of them are extremely talented and only need a general idea of what you want to come up with something truly amazing.

That's the route I'd take if I was looking for a real one of a kind work of art that would be too nice to ever actually use...lol

I have heard bout insane canopy but not about Sick Canopy. I will do some research and maybe contact them. CanoMod, and Fusuno definitely knew about them but again did not think there were still in business.

I definitely can try airbrushing or tattoo shop, however, can they get the glossy look like some of the best Canopy I have seen. I never questioned their artistic ability, just don't know about the finish product.

Someone who specializes in airbrushing would probably be the best bet only harder to find. Would have more knowledge on painting on different materials but sure they all use protective clear coats over top.

I'll ask the tattoo artist I know that's been wanting to do a canopy for me. Curious myself now that you mentioned it. He lives up north a ways otherwise would have done one by now.

You can have the artwork done by the tattoo shop and the clear coat done at an automotive collision shop..... they could probably do it for next to nothing if they could spray it at the same time they are finishing a collision paint job....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

compatibility

One of the main concerns would be the compatibility of the airbrush paint with the clear used. When I painted i always ran into this issue when using different brand paints. I knew the risks and how to midigate them but if you get an artist to do a really great paint job on your canopy and then take it to an auto shop to get it sprayed, the airbrush paint and the auto paint may react and krinkle or worse. It can be done if the clear is laid down in multiple thin coats but typically at an auto place they are going to do one thick coat and that is what will cause reaction.

I would not think that tattoo artists would have clear that will hold up to fuel. For an electric you can use most any clear. But again compatibility is the issue.

I would look into insane. He is the best out there (as far as those still in business ). Sick canopy is the "economy" end of insane canopies. Order from them and you will not run into issues.

Did he crash? Dang, I missed it!

You make a good point about the auto-shop clear and the way it is applied.
I have done a little more checking and it looks as though Sick Canopy is no longer available
I always found myself adding more customizations to mine anyway which made them Insane('s) when finished
