Tony Ratcliffe has taken over at Wren.

Contact him at tony@wrepowersystems.com

He dealt with my little problem well last week.

Mike Murphy is still there but Leonie has left.

I think Tony Ratcliffe took over the business at the beginning of the year.
He does not seem to be in the office all of the time but has always answered my emails.

Wren Parts

Hi Simon, Mike from Wren contacted me last night and working on the parts I need to keep my Trex 700 in the air. They have a new version with a full internal starting plug now, not out side the turbine, but inside the body. I need to up- date my 44?

Yes, personally I strongly recommend~ internal starting plug~ once for good.

The external one will be easily jammed by carbon in the future.

Sooner or later, it is just a matter of time.

I had 2 external plugs~ each one used for only 1-1.5 years.

No response still from Wren

I have sent eight emails over the last week, to Mike, in regards to second hand starting plugs,as they do not have new plugs at all for the turbines?????Why is this the case... I sent back to him for a price on the secondhand plugs and postage cost to me and I am STILL waiting for him to get back to me! This is not good service, as these turbine's are not cheap and you would like to think that they would keep stock of spares! Very unhappy customer....Mike please respond with an email and tell me what is going on

G'day,

The Jetcat plug may fit it and you can get them from Intairco in Melbourne. Does the Wren one just screw into the spot where the glow plug used to go? Might be an option.

I still have my original kero start in my SPH5 and it's had a couple of hundred flights I'd say over the years. The most important thing with kero start is to keep your cables as short as possible and keep your batteries charged. A low start voltage is your biggest enemy as you will glaze the plug quick smart.

I had a big crash with mine years ago and sent the engine back to Germany, I pulled the kero start out of it as I was concerned it'd get snapped off in shipping. When the engine arrived back it had a free revamped plug installed. All they had done was grind about 0.5mm off the end of the white ceramic tip. That plug lasted for around 50 flights in my jet right up until I tried to fly one day for a ninth flight and glazed the plug again. Jetcat have now change to a different type of plug which isn't as sensitive to the lower voltages.

A big thank you.

To both,Simon and Mick, yes Simon I have send emails to Mike on the 7/6/17 with no reply to this day? and to Mick, thank you for the imformation on the plug, I will see if that brand of plug will do but I think Wren plug is (like a diesel engine glo plug) but smaller. thank you both regards Ivor.

Sorry, maybe I am wrong~

I believe that Jetcat vs. Wren kero plugs are different~

Even both external designs are not the same.

I don't think they are interchangeable.

Most important, Wren's current design is totally internal installation.

The picture above is the older design~ external one~ which is very easy to accumulate carbon and jam the plug. (I had 2).

Sorry for rcglo's bad feeling toward Wren in England.

I had the same experiences as yours in the past. I can feel your pain.

What happened? Not again~?!

Thank you Kevin, I need to look at a different brand with the same mounting points as the O.S.90 size. I think Jetcat look's the same but no hole's with the thread's like the O.S. 90 pattern. PS In the gear box housing. Like I said, I have a Starting plug coming from O/S as a spare and I just hope any one that need's a service for these turbine can find some else to do this work with the right gear!

Ivor, I don't speak for Wren, only that I have a Wren 44 and like it as a turbine( I also have a Jaka and Jetcat) in my Trex800.

I thought that new ownership might bring a bit more stability to the company.
I feel sorry (and a bit apologetic for being an English company) that you are not being treated very well. If they do not have the items you are looking for then at least an email to say so would go a long way in customer services.
Speaking personally, Wren sorted my problem out but does not bode well for future servicing/repairs.

Hope you get sorted one way or another.

Kevin,
Mike Murphy is now technical advisor now I think, he will not answer the phone.
Tony Ratcliffe the new owner will answer the phone if he is in the office but suspect he does a lot from home as not easy to get through to the office.
If he does not answer emails I think try to ring on different days.

All this would not encourage me to spend £3400 on another new Wren 44.
