Pointless killing? In my opinion that "art" is pointless. Didn't really take any talent at all. Served his sensibilities, nothing more. If there's a god that pours molten lava over a city because it's "cool", then that god is a ****.

I guess you have never met a fire ant. They will bite you for the sake of it. It itches like mad and stings as well, and then turns septic for a couple of weeks.

Treat fire with fire, I pour gasoline into the nest and have a little bonfire. Teach the little rascals what its like

No, I admit I've never met a fire ant, and please excuse my previous language. Getting rid of a pest is one thing. I still stand by what I said in principle. That said, for all I know the guy in the video was doing just that - getting rid of pest on his property, but in a creative way.

I read that the guy prefers to use abandoned nests. Makes a lot of sense to do that even if you hate fire ants. For several years i worked in a foundry. Occasionally we did some oddball things. Once we tried to cast a couple scorpions in bronze. (They were already dead) We baked the ceramic molds pretty hot, but the exo-skeletons did not burn out. Same is likely true of the ant heads. The quality of the cast would be much better for abandoned nests so he has motivation to seek those out.

To hell with Fire Ants. I kill them every freak'n way I can. They do nothing but screw up my lawn, flower gardens and most importantly hurt my daughters (me as well, but not so much). Put them in the same category as yellow jackets....just pure mean.

Fire ants are very small, but they bite and then sting you like a wasp. One sting is uncomfortable, but fire ants are like an angry swarm of tiny wasp, as soon as you touch the mound thousands swarm out and attack you. Step on the mound and you are in for miserable few weeks.
I use an approved powder on the nest (easy to spot verses regular ant nest, which I leave alone), so is the powder poison more human than pouring hot molten aluminum on them ? I really don't care.
Children have died from fire ants.
To see the horrific effects, do a search fire ants bites images
To graphic to post here.
.
Here is a close up of a single fire ant bite and sting.
Notice how the head pinchers grab hold while the abdomen inserts the stinger.

Now multiply that by a hundred since they swarm and attack at the same time. By the time you feel the first sting, hundreds more are already on you.
.
By the way, those fie ant castings go from $100 to $500 on ebay, so it's not a total waste of time.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Well I am getting schooled on fire ants. They do seem like nasty buggers. Ants up here don't bite. Up here the biting pests are mosquitos, black flies, deer flies, horse flies, and ticks, all of which I would kill en masse.

Pompeii turned out to be a very cool casting opportunity!

When they excavated they found these cavities where people had been buried by solidified volcanic ash. They poured plaster in and made casts of some of the people. Mother's covering their children, guys on the floor protecting a jug of beer...

Those are interesting. I am considering getting one.

yeah the're bad. got 5 mounds right now in my yard... treating them kills lots of them... but the reality is you dont kill the mound... all they do is relocate. you can kill off the queen and they have dozens more to take her place. the bad part about their sting is that it turns into a puss filled pimple... then after it heals... it often comes back almost as if you got stung again. Those with sensitive skin often end up with little scars at the bite area. on top of it these little buggers aint got any natural predators here either. they are so tough that during floods, they form up into floating rafts and "migrate" the entire mount, egg, larva, pupa, immature queens etc with the flood water.

Hmmmm!!!
I think you should try not to scratch them, the puss (infection) is more likely from the crap we have under the nails than from the ants themselves or you might need to bump up your immune system.
I never experienced the any type of purulent pustules even scratching violently with filthy hands on jungle treks.
Tons of different ants here in the tropics I myself got nailed countless times by fire ants and never got more than the temporary burning discomfort
Just my $0.02
