Hi All
I have my trusty old DX7 which works fine, well did up until now, the screen is just blank.. it got left on for a day by accident, and worked for a few days after and now no display.. the rest of the radio works fine....

anyone know what this issue could be or anyone know where I can get repaired, I am in New Zealand and there is no places I have found who will touch it..

seems a shame to dump it, for what could be a $5 part to fix, but I need someone who can !!

suggestions please, half my helicopters are grounded at the moment

thanks

Cliff

... perhaps this is a time to upgrade to something new or send to horizon hobby (let the pro's take care of it)

this may not be the response you want to hear but when it comes to something that links to a flying machete, don't Macgyver it.

Also,

this is a chance to have a backup TX, so your fleet don't get ground. maybe you should also consider another charger setup ... that could ground your fleet as well.

Yep... I do have a backup.. I have an old JR with a orangerx module, so I will have to set all my stuff on to that..

I'll try horizon...

All good for chargers

thanks

if you can find a used dx7 radio for about 100$
or time to upgrade

my dx7 did the same as yours, I had to send it in and it was only a year old.

you still use you old rx's with a new radio

spending time, paying attention

Hi.. I have other radios, but just a shame that it's all good except screen..I have bought a orangerx for an old jr radio so got round it that way.. but it's probably only a $2 component which bugs me...

Do LCDs fail simply from being left on? Have you looked to see if something isn't detached or poorly seated? Pop the back off and wiggle some things. Does the inside of the radio smell like electricity? Anything showing signs of damage?

I wonder if it's the LCD or if it's something that drives the display. Possibly you could repair it yourself?

Maybe write these folks. https://www.spektrumrc.com/ They made it. They likely know who in New Zealand could repair it.

Well I emailed Horizon in the USA and they said it has to go to Horizon Germany, but no matter how many times I email the German site, I get no replies, so thats kinda dead end... nothing smelly nothing loose, all looks as new inside, I just know its going to be some cheap component gone..one hobby shop I spoke to locally said they have a new screen, but not knowing if it is the LCD or a driver etc, I have not gone down that path...

I will keep an eye out for a dirt cheap one that I can use for parts

Well first check the battery. If a cell or two is dead, it may have enough voltage to run parts of the transmitter BUT not the screen. Cycle the battery.
