They said that last year. Did they lie? These idiots can't pass healthcare, they can't pass a tax cut, they can't fund the border wall and they spend like drunken sailors. Is Modeling really going to get their attention?

New R/C "stuff" cannot come from Congress.

Congress is incapable of creating anything of use.

Your words and claims mean nothing anymore....

John Taylor and the DC Court of Appeals have certified that you are FOS on this matter....and as a result, you always have been.

Just another FAA shill, as everyone suspected.....

The FAA just makes sh*t up. That's the opinion of the courts. Instead of doing the real work of trying to clean up DJI's mess with the proliferation of hundreds of thousands of hack appliance operators buying camera quads, FAA thought it would be smarter to penalize modelers and lump us into that mess pile of poo by making us register. What they should have done is to register the buyers of Phantoms and let them sign on the dotted line.

Modelers were never the problem and we still aren't but I can guarantee that this whole situation has had a chilling effect on the model heli hobby as witnessed here in the last few years with the decline in the industry.

$5 for a few years of registration is hardly punishment. Although this is the same hobby getting people to pay $50 a year for a nice place to fly (AMA and legal) was like pulling teeth.
I personally don't think the downturn in the hobby has anything to do with it either.

I just think the thought behind it was
accountability. But that's just my opinion.

I made a mistake once, but I was wrong?

If the FAA were trying for accountability they would have made everyone that purchased a stabilized multirotor from DJI or similar register at the point of sale. Putting your name in another database isn't accountability. They already knew who we were. The AMA is an open book.

AMA Statement on Federal Court of Appeals Ruling on the FAA Registration Rule

MUNCIE, Ind. - Rich Hanson, President of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), today issued the following statement on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruling in the case of John Taylor V. Michael Huerta, Federal Aviation Administration:

"AMA is encouraged to see the Court affirm the strength of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft, otherwise known as Section 336, under which our members operate. For decades, AMA members have registered their aircraft with AMA and have followed our community-based safety programming. It is our belief that a community-based program works better than a federally mandated program to manage the recreational community.

"We have long held that federal registration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) makes sense at an appropriate threshold of weight, capability and other safety-related characteristics. However, federal registration shouldn't apply at such a low threshold that it includes toys. It also shouldn't burden those who have operated harmoniously within our communities for decades, and who already comply with AMA's registration system."
