I'm having a problem and can't get castle support to get back to me on this.

Here is what has been going on that I sent in a support request for.

for the last 2 weeks I've been having my ESC go into failsafe and cannot seem to track the issue down.

It seems the logs are showing current spikes in the 300+ amps and that look to correlate with the shutdowns.

Nothing has changed on my setup for the last year and things were working fine until this started.

Can you review my data logs to see if you can help me troubleshoot the issue if it is/not the ESC?

Session 2 and 5 is a full flight on the packs. There were cutoffs on those. Session 6, 7, 8 were test flights and they had cutoffs too. Session 9 was after a change in the log frequency and I updated the PWM to 12 to see if there was any change but still had cutoffs.

SPECS:
Goblin 700 Competition
12S (Two 5000 45C packs)
23 Tooth Pinion (9.3:1 ratio)
2050 RPM with Set Rpm Castle Gov
30 Gov Gain
8 PWM, Timing 5
3.3v cutoff
280A Insensitive setting
Scorpion 4525-520KV Ultimate
Castle Edge 160HV speed controller

I already updated one of my EC5 battery serial connections to the ESC but have not seen any changes in the spikes. My friend flies essentially the same Goblin 700 (motor, rpm, and esc) and we looked at this log, and he is only pulling 50amps average with 150 spikes.

We are thinking that maybe the current sense circuitry in the ESC might be out of spec, since those numbers are just beyond any of the motor or esc specs listed.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

300A spike is a lot, especially if your friend's similar heli only pulls 150A.
You might have a short in the motor or a poor connection causing the motor and ESC timing to get out of whack.
Steal your friend's motor and give it another try.

Yeah, we thought of swapping the esc or the motor to see if that would change something.

I'll double check all the other solder joints too just in case.

Just to update folks on this.

Swapped in my friend's exact motor and same high amp draw.

After almost a month and no replies from CC support, I simply sent it in for repair.

Took a week after getting there to get it logged and since it was a bit over 2 years old, my only option was a Tier Two non-warranty claim. Paid my money and got the new one sent.

The new ESC came in and its now logging 60amps average and 180amps peak.

It was the ESC simple as that. No damage, no bad caps, just out of spec somewhere and reporting bad data internally.
