An electric endurance event.

Helis would be tuned low, and packed full of batteries, weight reduced (this last factor would require safety review I feel).

They would have to meet certain goals. Not quite forcing them all to do the same flight pattern, but checking maneuvers off a list,

Finally maintaining a hover while playing "chicken" with your battery voltage because you would have to land with a minimum voltage left in the pack such as 3.7v per cell.

The battery would be checked by an IRCHA designated individual.
Independent of the pilot's voltage monitoring system.

Lipos only? I have an Eco 8 running on a 10 cell nimh. One of these is the original record holder for the endurance event.

Well that presents an issue,
And an important one if the concept is to push electrical tech further. Because it would be great to see more options than we currently have.

But different battery technologies having different cutoff voltages could present a bias.

Any ideas?

I can run the nimh batteries till the headspeed is so slow that it won't even hover. Maybe seperate the battery technologies? Nimh and nicad together.

I'm wondering if there would be enough interest in the concept to even have categories.

Maybe the 3.7 per cell limit could only apply to lithium tech. Under a sort of blanket rule that electric tech is reusable, so making a record by destroying the tech defeats the purpose.

So using NIMH or nicad your advantage would be that,
You'd be able to stay airborne until dead.
However safety wise,
I'm thinking that helis using these types of batteries should be required to use a Rx pack, to prevent loss of control due to brown outs.

I imagine it wont be an issue, like you said. If you get any takers, they will be using lipos.

Several years ago this was a small "competition" at the Jamboree. If you guys want to organize it and create some basic rules, we would be happy to find a place for it to happen.
