The lack of compassion for another human being and deplorable response once it caught fire on social media is a reflection of a corrupt core at United that puts customer's last....and most certainly way behind their own employees.

Another company will fill the vacuum and learn from their mistake. I hope they go bankrupt and are a cautionary tale for all other corporations that feel they can treat paying customers like cattle.

People get tossed off the plane all the time. In the case of Dr D!ckhead. He was removed twice, once to clear the seat for a crew for another plane, perfectly legitimate reason, and he was removed a second time for being a D!ckhead, which is also a prefectly legit and urgent reason to remove him.

Pistol Pete said I'm sure first class is exempt

There was a second incident not publicized much involving a first class passenger. Once paid seats are filled then sky miles earners get a seat on a priority list. If you don't come up on the list high enough to catch an empty seat you sit at the back of the bus. Well a gentleman makes the list boards and is seated. Before the door closes another man shows up and is given the seat already given to the first man. So the airline goes to first class and asks the first man to vacate the seat because of someone with a higher priority. A discussion ensues and finally the first man relinquished the seat and gets a seat at the back of the bus.
Sorry, once that seat was filled the second man should have been told all seats in first class are filled and you are being assigned an economy seat.

Re: First Class.

@ Heli123

FWIW, I also mentioned zero-fare-ticket and that incident you mention seems to fit that category.

That scenario you described is a reassigment of seat as opposed to removal from plane.

What is not clear to me is the "higher priority". LINK?

What would be clear to me is if that last passenger had a first class ticket as opposed to "sky miles", then technically there is no discussion to be had by seating priority.

Back of the bus...pun intended?

Hi Pistol,
I wasn't referring to zero fare tickets. Sorry for any confusion. My understanding is Both individuals had paid for their seats but the individual was removed from his seat and sent to an economy section. The excuse was that the other passenger was of "higher priority".
I travelled all over the world 1-2 weeks of every month for 15 years in my last job so I've spent a lot of times on airliners.
Back of the bus is a joking reference to being sent to the cheap back row seats.
I will try and find the link for that report.
When traveling I mostly possssed economy tickets but due to my high skymiles status was regularly "bumped" to first class seating.
I'm not taking sides in the removal incident as I was not present to provide a first hand account. I just feel the airline could have handled it better. For instance they could have raised the reward for someone to voluntarily step off as I regularly have seen done and there is always someone willing to take the offer.
I have flown almost every airline and my opinion is that United(and a couple others) are not the friendliest to passengers. That's my personal opinion. Others may feel differently.

Take care!

You do realize this airline is worth billions right?

Realistically, United Airlines will be just fine. I'm sure this guy will win just about any lawsuit his lawyers can dream up, but even in an extreme case, any monies that get paid out are just pennies in a bucket to such a large company.

So, the only people that are likely to lose their jobs here are the folks involved in overselling that flight in the first place, the TSA guys that beat up the guy and dragged him off the plane(not likely though), and the PR person and CEO just for show and good measure.

This is a HUGE PR problem for United but not devastating. United will have a temporary image problem and then no one will remember or even care about this in about 2 months. Worse case for United? They will just rebrand or simply repaint their aircraft with their partner airline's logo...but have same business practices.

So, all the outrage is a nice sentiment, but in the end, the guy that got beaten up will be happy he had his jaw broken all the way to the bank. And 95% of the people that are talking about boycotting United now will pay full price to have their little butts sitting on a United flight hoping they can have their jaws broken too. I'm sure United will be a little smarter next time

United can't catch a break

United Airlines passenger 'stung by scorpion' on flight

A Canadian man says he was stung by a scorpion while travelling in business class on a United Airlines flight.

Richard Bell said the scorpion fell from the overhead bin and onto his head during lunch on a trip from Houston, Texas to Calgary in Canada.

After putting it on his plate, he was stung. United has offered compensation.

It happened on Sunday, the same day a United passenger was violently dragged from a plane after refusing to give his seat to a staff member.

Mr Bell, who was travelling with his wife, Linda, told CBC: "While I was eating, something fell in my hair from the overhead above me.

"I picked it up, and it was a scorpion. And I was holding it out by the tail, so it couldn't really sting me then."

A fellow passenger, he said, warned him that the creature was a scorpion and could be dangerous.

"So I dropped it on my plate and then I went to pick it up again, and that's when it stung me. It got my nail, mostly," he said
Mr Bell flicked the scorpion on to the floor and a flight attendant covered it with a cup before throwing it away in the bathroom.
A nurse who happened to be on board gave him a painkiller as a precaution, he said.

When the plane landed in Calgary he was taken to a hospital, and later released after being cleared of any medical issue.

Mr Bell said he had no plans to launch a lawsuit. United Airlines has offered the couple flying credit as compensation, CBC reports.

No, this will not end as business as usual for United. While they may settle out of court to keep the media from conflating this even more, this has caught the undivided attention of lawmakers. For once, they have found rare bipartisan ground. You can bet your sweet ass new regulations will be put in place to stop some of this nonsense from happening and United will pay through the nose. This will have reverberations all throughout the airline industry and I bet we will see MORE hospitality in the air moving forward.

Thanks for link. My assumption has been trumped with facts. Talk about VIP status.

Looking forward to SNL skits on United.

Dear United, I just found out that my mother in law is flying to visit us this coming weekend. She will be on Flight 1376, departing Miami at 9:30 AM, and sitting in seat 12B. You know what to do.
