Do you mean "to hover" at 1/2 stick ??

Either way you'll need to adjust the pitch to about 6 degrees at 1/2 stick and then adjust the throttle to suit ....

And last question, why do you want to do this ?

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

You could set the head up mechanically for -2 to +12 degrees of pitch.
You could set the curves in your radio to limit the neg pitch.
You will have to fly in idle-up because the heli will not come down without bringing the collective down far enough that it cuts the throttle.

First you need to know your gear ratio so you can set the head speed for your engine then when you have that set adjust your pitch to get it however you like it on the stick easy as 123 All of my gassers hover at three-quarter stick,,, that's -12, zero, +12 pitch. It helps if you're running a governor if not you'll have to adjust throttle and pitch curves. XGM/VGM

One could assume from this question this is not intended as a 3d setup.

I would have thought most non-3d flyers are hovering at ½ stick as it gives far nicer stick resolution.

Just set -2, +6, +12 and adjust throttle curves to suit. The best tacho is your ears, if it sounds right then it probably is. Not really sure why you would need to think about gear ratios except for initial governor setup. Not everyone picks a headspeed based on power curves.

Good luck.

Mongoose

Run the head speed at 1320, 1400, and 1480.

Gear ratio is 9.09.

You can hover it at 2/3rds stick and it will fly inverted and hover symmetrical stick to the downside.

Probably won't be sble to swing 12 degrees my guess would be less due to the larger disk. Put as much pitch in it as it can take to climb out holding 1480.

Enjoy!

1/2 throttle isn't

Predator Gasser here and I found out also that half stick is not half throttle with a gasser. I run about 1/3 throttle at half stick 6 degrees in a hover. I run mine very scale with a lower head speed than most. My blades are even wider chord like FBL blades with a fly barred head.

Hi my goose is set up 3 down 4 mid 8/5 up and disk is set at 1350 ish 830 blades hovers well and just floats I never seem to need throttle much , it just stays aloft , against the others I have , nitros , electrics , but servos are important with these huge helis In wich I am going through now , the load on that disk at the hub is huge , love the old beast ,

Gasser motor

Looking to get a gasser Heli. I want to get motor first; what would be a good motor to get. Willing to spend about $500 on motor. The Heli I will get is a Trex 700. Thanks.

Toxic Racing Motors and BH Hanson are the two specializing in Zenoah engines modified for RC helis. Carey Shurley from Gas Powered Thoughts carrys TRM engines.

Pick your conversion kit carefully. Make sure it uses a Zenoah clutch and research the kit for known issues.

I am not a big fan of most of the Trex conversions, the ones I have owned or flown for other pilots did not fly as well as other donor brands.

+1 to Toms comments... many Trex conversions have serious design flaws and even the best of them are at the mercy of Align parts quality which is hit and miss. The old Helix was a good one ( I still fly one and love it) but it's no longer made. It is proabably the lightest airframe out there.

The new Blackout mods offering looks good but it's expensive.

But in all honestly if I was starting from scratch I would get the MA Whiplash or one of the JC designs conversions (KDS/Goblin/Synergy) sold on Carey's site.

same here, never had an MA (almost pulled the trigger on one two months before MA folded), but some folks I flew with had them. there is alot to be said about consistent parts quality and continued support.

You may be able to get a conversion cheaper OR buy a dirt cheap Radical online, but of all the gassers I have seen and experienced, MA is at the top of the heap.

One thing to keep in mind, Trexs' were never designed to handle the vibrations produced by a bigger displacement 2 stroke gasoline engine, therefore durability will suffer despite the initial perceived performance. If your a big time tinkerer, then by all means pick what you like, but if your more interested in flying over wrenching... go MA.
