I am going to restore the Hirobo vintage Falcon MK1 (the first version, 1977)

Anyone have the original manual.

Thank you so much.

I think the Mk1 did not ship with a proper assembly manual, and only came with the drawings Klaus posted above. The closest thing to a manual would probably be the Falcon 505 manual. Hope that helps!

The later GMP Competitor is pretty similar, and has a much better build manual that you can download here.

I have a Falcon MK II that needs a cleaning, inspection, and this looked like a good thread to ask. I hope Martin doesn't mind me adding my question to his thread. I don't have a manual or any instructions on how to set up the strange head that it has. Can anyone help? It could use a new windshield to look perfect if anyone has one available for sale.

MKII Head

Yikes! hopefully not with this contraption on it??

I have NO IDEA how that thing works!

I have built and flown the standard original Falcon head:

It flys so stable that its actually a little difficult to get the heli going in any direction.

What I wound up doing on my Mk1 was to remove the levers that attach to the flybar rods and cause the hiller paddles to go collective, (using later GMP/Hirobo flybar rods with a snug locknut on each end so they no longer rotate, and GMP paddles) so what you wind up with mechanically is essentially the GMP/Hirobo "Pro" rotorhead:

This gets you to a somewhat decently flyable setup, even though it's not the original configuration.

Sorry, no extra windshields here. I would be seriously impressed (and interested to find out where) if you find a source. I believe its the same windshield and canopy as the Falcon 505 if that helps your search.

Hi Marc,

Yep, that's the one. The first photo of the heads is a picture of my heli. I can't find any setup information or instructions at all. I thought at first it was a cobbled together mess that someone had put on it but from the few pictures that I've seen that is the proper head. It does take the standard 505 canopy and windshield. If I could find one uncut I would just make a mold and pull it myself but no luck so far. I should probably consider trading it off for a Falcon 505. It would make an excellent addition to a Hirobo collection of the strange and weird days of early RC helis.

Fly it and post video here !!!

get her flying in her original correct configuration! You will not only have an adventure doing it, but also wind up with an extremely rare model to still be in flyable condition!

Noooooo Randal ... it is just a very jerry rigged first time idea for controlling the flybar paddles and you should be able to figure it out as good as you are at things,, then like Marcw says fly that piece of history !!!
If not send it to me and I will get it going for ya !!! I am retired now and need something to do

I would really prefer to get it restored and flying since it is pretty rare. The only thing that it really needs is a windshield but the one that's on it will work. I might try and use a Horizon 60 windshield if the contours are close. If anyone finds an instruction manual for it please let me know Did Klaus take over vrhc for Joe? I might contact him and see if he has any info. I really want to get it set up properly before flying it.

To make room in the ever-expanding hangar, I have decided to sell my Mk1 and 555. See ads in the vintage classifieds:
