Hi guys,

Would putting dry graphite lube on the belt control static discharge? I read this somewhere and just want to confirm again

Thanks!

Any type of lubricant will reduce the possibility of static electricity.
- grease is one of them
- I personally use dry silicone, will nicely preserve the belt
- keep in mind how much the graphite will "fling"

BTW
Making a wired connection from boom to motor mount
- will keep static charge from building up
- "grounding the boom" in conjunction with the lubricant on belt will reduce the chances of an Electrical Static Discharge

Also ... the amount of humidity plays a role aswell. Hope this helps

- Scott

Thanks. I was thinking of using the electrically conductive graphite in place of going through the motions of grounding the boom using a separate wire

Not sure how good of a "ground" you'll get by applying the graphite to the belt....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

I thought Goblin booms where self grounding by design.... Does it say to ground or spray the belt in the manual?

Graphite power is good but messy....take care where you put it and a little goes a long way...it is goog when you dont want to attract dirt and grime....oils and sprays lubes attract crap dry lube wont.

Wouldn't this increase the chance of the belt slipping? Do you have to run them tighter after they are lubricated?

normal installation of tail boom should provide ground.
Easy to check with multi-meter. continuity test from tail shaft to frame aluminum components. If meter beeps there should be not static issue.

For belt I use "belt conditioner" Fleet Farm sells a spray can, spray on brush and apply.

CF is conductive but the layer of epoxy used to bind that material is not. unless you shave the epoxy away on all surfaces, there is a never a 100% contact surface. As soon as you start to fly, the boom moves, breaks contact, static hit, you go in. Just add the wire and be 100% assured all is well...
