I landed... er crashed Stan's Cobra in the tree tops at Top Gun in Florida last year. We had to borrow a chain saw to cut the tree down to retrieve the heli. Definitely not my finest moment...

A diversion is always nice Stan, if I had anything to post I would have interrupted you, you know that

Most of what I have been doing is hammering the 3D printer and I finally have all of the exterior parts printed.

I have decided on the color scheme, Silver and blue.

Yesterday I started rubbing down with fine Scotch Brite, just enough to take the shine off the gel coat and hopefully ensure the paint stays on when I pull the masking off. I wont know the answer to that one for a couple of days.

This morning I cleaned it and degreased it and gave it a coat of base white. Then I placed a vinyl sticker where the number has to go and painted the whole lot silver.

Tomorrow I get to mask it off and do the blue.

After a hard week painting and masking and more painting, final assembly can be started

And then its straight back in the spray booth for a coat of gloss black where the turbine outlet is

It will be back in the spray booth again later for an airbrushing of flat black for the exhaust. Meanwhile, the turbines and APU generator have been fitted

Wipers and auxiliary heater in the side pod are in

More airbrush work needed on the winch and exhausts and while that paint is drying, I will reassemble the mechanics

Thanks for the kind words guys, but most of the credit for this one goes to Petr, Martin and Michael the kit suppliers. They made it too easy, all I had to do was screw it together and get the paint roller out, just like building a Vario kit

I must admit, I did have secret weapon on this one which allowed me to do the best clear coat on the fuselage I have ever done. I am thinking of applying to Roban for a job as a heli painter

The mechanics are now back in and I am waiting for the clear coat on the winch parts to harden and the paint on the exhausts to dry. Mixing a thimble full of clear coat was not easy and I may have gone light on the catalyst but it's almost dry. Tomorrow it will be done.

Meanwhile, this is how it is looking now. A very strange arrangement of the antennas on the tailboom. Either there is a good reason for them to be all over the place or the designer had too much Vodka.
