Company History

Maybe we can start a thread showing the history of each company. For example:

Normally I'm up for any topic. This morning for once, I don't get the point of this topic. Activity HERE seems to be winding down more and more. Substance is slowly diminishing and being replaced by topics like this one.

AGREE, I am involved in another hobby and their related sites. I see the same thing happening to one of the most popular sites out their. This site I am referring to was once considered the best.

I would hate to see this site follow the same direction.

To the op. Are you talking past or future? Past, there have been many come and go. For example Thundertiger. The future, we will see. Is there something you would like to share with us?

Correction . Removed JR. I Read they were discontinuing helis. I never heard they were discontinuing radio. Excuse me. Bad info

That doesn't read well. Between the ADD society, Hobby King and stuff being made like toys instead of hobby grade, no wonder they can't survive. There just isn't the support there used to be. My basement is starting to look like an R/C museum compared to what's being sold these days.

That's funny, my Thundertiger collection gets the same reaction when I go to events and funflys. People can't figure out what heli I have as it doesn't resemble their Trex's, they've never actually seen a Raptor 'in person', and they don't know what that funny little short bar with paddles is for. I get treated as if I have brought the antique road show

That one has been beaten to death.

We discussed it ad naseum in the gasser room - start 2/3 down page 3 of this thread:
https://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t813394p3/

And it was discussed on FlyingGiants, and got locked becuase it was nothing but rumor
http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...ghlight=hobbico

It was discussed at Helifreak, RCuniverse and likely RCGroups as well, thought I dont feel like digging up those threads right now.

The bottom line is that, being its a private company we are not likely to get the real story anytime soon.

Well then, have you heard rumors of another major player folding up and closing the doors?

We as consumers have a right to know these things too. If it is common industry knowledge, then I have a right to switch to a product and supplier that I can expect service from.

Legitimate topic

Hi Evolusia, I think this is a legitimate topic which deserves reading and positive replies. We are all consumers and deserve to have access to such information so we can plan our future investments in the hobby. No offense meant to anyone. Just my opinion.

No probs, I just happened to come across a snippet on this interweb thingy referring to a forthcoming announcement, although they didn't give any other info. I have Hirobo and Thunder Tiger helis which keep me happy and enough spares to keep me going until I become too old and feeble(not far off) or the grim reaper comes a knocking, but that doesn't dispel that feeling of being let down when the company you support goes under for whatever reason.

Have a right to know what?
What is "common industry knowledge"?

Hobbico is a private company. They are not public, not traded on any stock exchange. As a result they dont have any legal requirement to make public disclosures of their financial situation.

Imagine you opened up a corner hobby store and I walked in and demanded to see your ledger books as "my right as a consumer". You would laugh at me.

What do we gain out of these threads other than getting angry and spreading rumors? You oculd make the argument - as rcnut did to me - that these threads actually contribute to the vendor demise you are so worried about because they scare off potential customers.

These discussions are about as useful as the silly conspiracy theory threads you guys keep floating (i.e. Whitehead vs. Wright). maybe we should keep such tin hat nonsense in the off topic/politics room with the rest of the crazy talk...

-----

Now to get something positive out of all this, I'll flip it around - Miniature closed, but then was bought by a very nice German fellow named Josef Shriener who reopened the business and is making parts and new design kits

"Have a right to know", what? You have no right. They offered you a product that you either paid for and received or didn't buy and they didn't send. That's about where your rights stop.

I am going to add a little to this. Above a guy said JR is out of business. You need to get the facts straight on this. As a matter of fact JR Americas has gotton some of the product in. Last shipment was there just this week and it contained the new NXB8921 servos and some 28x radios. Didn't take long tho to sell the 28x tho. Those servos have been out of stock for several months. Now they can be bought again. JR did in fact have to make a new manufacturing plant. That is what has been done.

This is a good example of this thread being meaningless. JR never announced they were closing. Ppl just assumed that they were. How many others are the same way? And now above someone said something about Hobbico. Well same thing until it is announced by them it is meaningless.

"Hi, has anyone heard of a major player in the hobby winding their company up?"

Ready Heli should be one major one that comes to mind.

That is, if a major hobby distributor is included.
