I'm looking for suggestions on a high quality starter wand. I have a couple but they are wearing.

Hirobo

I have two. One is still in the original packaging because the first one is virtually indestructible.

Where are all the basement startups ? Starter wands would be a good thing to sell on eBay. I have an excellent one from that place in Billings. Has a removable wand, one way bearing of excellent quality, and threaded to mount on a Torque Master. Someone made this batch. Also have the Sullivan. The original wands were crap. But they presumably corrected that?

IMHO the Robbe was best one I've ever found. It's built like a tank and will last a lifetime. Only option is to find a used one these days.

This one is great. OUT OF STOCK. Looks like somebody should make a new batch since nitro is still alive. Well when I started, I had a thing made from PVC pipe that stuck in an airplane starter and the other end had a rubber insert - to go over the engine START CONE.

I have the wand you linked above, Torquemaster 180 and 4s lipo. Works great starts my 90 on a regular basis.

I made a mistake once, but I was wrong?

I'm the OP and I don't need a complete setup. I have an excellent motor. It's a 12V standard starter running on 18V Makita battery via A Finer Edge Mfg adapter that bolts into the starter. It's super compact, mighty powerful and have been using it for years. The one way bearing housing is mounted to the starter permanently and then the wand and the one way bearing socket pop into the housing. It's only because of wear on the hex end of the wand that I need that part replaced. I may just end up buying a very long ball end hex wrench and have it cut off and machined to fit into the holder. I don't need a one way bearing and adapter every time I want to freshen the hex end.

Then just grind a new hex on the end. A little shorter.

You would have to get a hardened hex key.

I have some spare time I'll look around the net today and see what I come up with.

Looks like a simple solution. Buy a new hex shaft. Good job.

oh!

If you only need the hex shaft..go on Mcmaster Carr; or MSC; or any machine shop oriented retailer and buy a "bondhus" ball driver..6mm I believe..and cut the screwdriver handle off.

They are not straight. Warp somewhere in the hardening process.

Contact Sullivan, maybe they will sell just the shaft piece. They're pretty good about that. You can buy individual replacement part for their starters.
