I've been working on a 500 size Eurocopter EC 145 for quite some time now and thought I would try my hand at building an interior for it by scratch.
But it has become crystal clear to me that I don't have nether the patients nor the skill set it takes to do such a task.

So in surfing the inter-web I found Find-Scale Modela.com and they have some amazingly detailed products for just my model ever in the size scale that I need.

The only problem is that just the instrument panel , pedals , sticks , and 2 seats with S&H cost far more that what I have in the fuselage and mechanics.

So my question is does anyone know of any other websites that sell these type of items at a little more affordable price?

I realize that not a hole lot of people are making this kind of stuff so therefor the price is going to be up there but how is a regular Joe suppose to be able to afford this hobby any more?

Here are a few pics of what my first ever attempt at making an interior turned out like , and I'm just not happy with it at all as the way I see it in my mind I can not reproduce in real life.

It is clear that some of you guys on here and other sites have way above average skill levels and make it look a hole lot easier than it really is , my hats off to you.

at least you tried to make one yourself,
you get more satisfaction in a home brew one than off the shelf
keep at it one day it will all fit in place and you will have one you can be proud of

I have to agree with some of the previous posters, I think what you've done looks really good especially for a 500 size. I don't think there's a lot out there for a 500 size because a lot of 500 size helis don't have room for interior details.

I know when I start building something I have never tried before it never turns out the way I envisioned it. Usually takes two sometimes three tries to get it right but to me that's all part of the fun.

Thinks Thumper

I pulled off the interior for right now and have be working on the exterior namely the weaponry mounts.

I'm thinking rockets or missiles on one side and a Dillon Mini-gun on the other or maybe a 50 cal. or maybe a 20mm cannon right now I just don't know.

This is the look I'm going for.

The green and tan camo one is really a H145M with the fenestron tail rotor.

Here are some of what I been working on and a mock-up of a rocket launcher.

I think 3D printing has to be the answer for the rest of your fittings, even if you don't own a printer yourself, there are people out there who will print the parts for you for a modest fee and to the size you want.

I recently had these 2 GPMG's done at 1/10th scale for my Lynx AH7. (Pic below) I am currently making up the mounts for them myself.

You can find most files on here and there are plenty of guns / rockets etc already done and they are ready for most 3D Printers, click on the "Find 3D models" link at the bottom of the page to do a search for what you want.

Yeah I've been looking into that 3D printed stuff.

Let me ask you a question thou about it.

It all looks to me to have those lines where one layer is put on the next any way to sand or smooth those out?

A little light sanding with fine grit sandpaper or wet 'n' dry paper will easily sort that out

Lots of good possibilities there. I like the military version it looks pretty bad a$$!

What model is that? I saw in your pictures that the mechanics are really tuck up there high and tight leaving lots of room for interior details.

The fuselage is an old SmartModel 500size EC145 I think from the first run where they didn't know weather to call it a 500 or a 550.

I mechanics are a very highly modified 450 mainly Align and Tarot parts.

This is the second helping of this build , the 2.0 version so ta speak , the first version V1 didn't end very well.

That is what happens when you don't use your head and think about the forces put on a mostly stock 450 4-blade head with 500 size 435mm blades.
Oh it lasted and flew great for about 21 flights but on that 22nd it blew up like a grenade.

So after the remains set in a pile on the floor over in the corner for over a year and a half one day I picked up all the pieces and started putting it back together.

But this time with one huge difference , I made an airframe that would hold up to the forces and abuse of spinning 4 435mm blades.

And that started with building a head from both a 450 head block and 500 blade grips along with some very spacial bearings.

Next I moved on to the airframe it's self and swapped out the over worked and under powered 470 size motor I had for a larger 500 size.
Then went with CNC Delrin main gear a pinion from a Logo 400 changed the crappy good for nothing belt driven tail to a torque tube tail , oh and high torque metal gear servo driven by a high amp BEC.

And this is what I ended up with , I know you can't see details because the mechanics inside the fuselage but for right now that is as good as I can do.

So there you have it all caught up to speed on the how when and where we got here , originally this build started way back in 2012 , so yeah 6 years in the making.

They give up anything on here for the longest build ?

Bear in mind that is a 14 Mpixel photo zoomed in so you will see a lot of the printing detail on there. On normal viewing you can barely notice it on there, certainly not at that size. (Those guns were done for a 600 size Heli), your fittings will be smaller so nothing to worry about really.
