From my previous experience .. when I try to bench test components
- AR7000 would not respond with without SAT
- once I use SAT, everything functioned normal
- besides, at $25 retail .. be good for added security.

I think you meant to say that it would not respond WITHOUT the satellite???

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Satellites are the spektrum receiver.
Nonsense from spektrum...

The two wires coming up are useless..

The Spektrum AR7000 DSM2 Rx is still a very good Rx imho. I still have a few of these and they continue to work very well.

If you are lucky enough to have one of the later versions (it has Dat on it, somewhere) then it also does pre-set fail safes and does faster re-connects. You need to use either a dsm2 or dsmx sat with any AR7000 Rx though.

Cheers,
TomC

You need to use the MATCHING satellite, DSM2 or DSMX to the main RX

You can use either a dsm2 or dsmx sat with the dsm2 AR7000. It will only bind in dsm2 of course. What you cannot do is bind a dsm2 sat to any Spektrum dsmx Rx. Always a bit confusing I know.

Sorry its not confusing.

You CAN NOT use a DSMX sat with a DSM2 base receiver or vice versa.

This isn't a "what works for you" kind of thing, sorry but this is a fact

A Spektrum dsmx sat will bind in either dsmx or dsm2 modes. Direct from Spektrum technical manuals;

"The SPM9545 DSM2 remote does not accept DSMX bind commands. The DSMX
remotes SPM9645 and SPM9646 support both DSMX and DSM2, and will automatically select DSM2 or DSMX as available in the transmitter."

I have bound Spektrum dsmx sats to my dsm2 ar7000 many times, no problems.

However, this cannot be said with some dsmx sat clones out there. For example, my LemonRC dsmx sats say that these must be used with a dsmx primary rx. They are dsm2 compatible but only if used alone (say through a flight controller) or with a dsmx rx that has been bound in dsm2 (not sure why you would ever do that?). So, you should not use these with any dsm2 primary rx's.

Sorry I cannot make this any clearer for you mate.

Cheers,
TomC

I can't make it any clearer for you that you can't reliably use a mismatched sat and base receiver.

We can agree to disagree but I'm confident in my Spektrum knowlegebase

So your Spektrum knowledge base is better than the actual documented Spektrum technical knowledge base?

When Spectrum moved from dsm2 to dsmx they made sure that their newer dsmx sat's were dsm2 compatible before they discontinued production of their dsm2 sat's.

If you feel more confident only using genuine dsm2 sat's with your genuine dsm2 primary rx then please feel free to do so mate.

As an aside comment; while I have found all genuine Spektrum sat's to be very reliable the same cannot be said of the sat cables. You def want to keep an eye on these, esp older ones that been connected/disconnected a number of times and after any crashes.

Edit; Even though I have not seen any problems using my AR7000 dsm2 rx's with a dsmx sat, this is with the newer one that has the Dat label on it. This is the only one you can do a pre-set failsafe and has a very fast brownout recovery. I'm not too sure about the older/original version?

If in doubt, play it safe and do not use any dsmx sats with your dsm2 ar7000 (or any dsm2 rx except the original ar8000), just dsm2 sats. Def the lowest risk thing to do imho.

Cheers,
TomC
