It is difficult to guess what is going wrong without a video or other description. It could be that prior steps are causing this one to fail. You might try running through the entire setup once more.

More description of what the swash plate is doing during this step would help diagnose the situation.

Lets say that the swash dips down to the south direction when you enter this function(direction does not matter). When the correct setting is selected, no matter what direction the helicopter points, the swash plate will always dip to the south.

If it is not, select another setting.

Yep the swash should tilt and hold that tilt in relation to which wall it is tilting towards and NOT in relation to the heli. If it's not simple flick the rudder stick to reverse it, there's only two options.

Why not post the resolution to your problem so that others down the line can benefit ??

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

As I would get flamed for typing RTFM, here it is on page 18. It even has pictures.

N. Setting the Pirouette Optimization Direction.
1. Note the direction the swashplate tilts when entering menu point (N). The swashplate will tilt forward or back; the direction does not matter.
2. Hold the helicopter at the rotor head and spin the helicopter by hand around the main shaft.
3. The swashplate should remain in the same tilt direction regardless of the rotational direction of the helicopter.
4. If the swashplate changes direction and rotates against the direction of the helicopter, use the rudder stick to change the direction.
5. Push the setup button to save the selection and exit the Setup Menu (N)

60% of the time, it works every time!

I don't believe he was able to understand the directions. Though it seems simple enough, if you do not speak English or German, you may have trouble understanding. been there.
