Facing Trump, Mexicans Think the Unthinkable: Leaving Nafta

“There could be no other option,” Mexico’s economy minister, Ildefonso Guajardo, said on Tuesday in a televised interview. “If we go for something that is less than what we have, well, then there is no sense in staying.”

To drive home Mexico’s importance to the United States, the Mexicans also intend to raise many other issues that bind the countries together, including migration, border security and drug trafficking.

So Mr. Peña Nieto’s government is trying to present “a package deal” to the Trump administration, in a tacit warning that Mr. Trump’s proposed wall would be an inadequate replacement for Mexico’s help on migration and security.

The message Mexico hopes to deliver is that “if you build your wall, the wall will have to substitute everything that we used to do,” said Jorge Castañeda, a former Mexican foreign minister.

I've also read the Mexican workers aren't that crazy about NAFTA because the wages south of the border aren't as good as in the states.

Mexico

It sounds to me, like Mexico is admitting to being in bed with the drug cartels. How can they unleash them if they do not have some control over them in the first place??

We can spend billions on a wall, might even be a great wall, but it will be defeated by a 20$ shovel.

As Trump Orders Wall, Mexico’s PresidentConsiders Canceling U.S. Trip

MEXICO CITY — President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico is considering canceling his meeting with President Trump in Washington next week, officials said Wednesday, responding to broad public outrage in Mexico over Mr. Trump’s announcement that he will construct a wall along the southern border of the United States.

“This wall, instead of creating good borders, will inevitably and undoubtedly create more security problems for the U.S.,” said Roberto Ortiz, 72, who sells GPS navigation units for drivers. “He will no longer enjoy Mexico’s cooperation and help with these issues.”

Mexico is outraged that the US would build a wall that wouldn't allow Mexicans to come and break our laws.

I hope the wall is done correctly. If not, it will be a waste of taxpayer funds and manpower.

We have a military for a reason, National Guard, etc. There are so many training opportunities for military units to man the wall.

Lets hope it is done right.

What gives Mexico the right to say what the US can build in our own country?
