What do you do when you have a 450 size BO-105 fuse and a 450 quad chopper laying around....that's right, you mate them...lol I know I'm not the first to do this but it's something I've wanted to try for a while and I think the BO-105 would make a cool looking futuristic experimental type military machine. I'm planning on installing a lighting system along with some type of armament. I'll also be using a DJI GPS controller which will be cool to watch this thing land on it's own. The other neat thing about doing something like this is your not restricted by copying a scale machine and you can use your imagination. The only thing that will restrict what I can do is the weight of the machine and what the payload will be of the quad which I really have no idea at this point. The first thing I need to do is mount the center quad plates into the fuse as to make it look like an integral part of the fuse and not just something that was bolted on-top. So I'll be molding some fiberglass parts along the way. I'll probably cut the tail off but not sure how short or what I will do with it at this point but I'll probably have to keep some of it for balance. So if anybody is interested, I'll continue to post pic's of the progress. Mark

Ps. I'm also thinking about installing a Gopro or a FPV system inside if I have enough payload left when I'm done.

Lower mounting plate

Rough cutting is complete and I made the lower quad plate/shelf.

I was going to use this shelf as a mounting point for the lower quad plate but to save weight, I've decided to use the shelf I made as the actual lower quad plate. I'll just use the quad plate as a drill guide for all the holes.

Before doing any drilling, I want to make sure everything is as close to being lined up and true as possible...which I'm finding out that a 450 size fuse isn't the most accurate and symmetrical mold out there. I have to make peace with myself that if it's within a 1/16 of an inch, that's close enough....lol Mark

Cabin Fever!

Hey Stan, yes, cabin fever has started...lol But I did get some flying in last week. Just waiting for a main shaft for the Vario 300c so I figured now would be a good time to start this project. Mark

Progress

Bottom plate drilled and mounted

Arms test mounted. Everything has lined up pretty well so far. Need to make a new top plate and start installing the motors and the electronics. Not going to worry about any body work until it's been test flown which I'm hoping for this weekend.

Ok, I've got to hand it to you, Mark, it almost looks like it has a slightly oversized head on it. You should have a hoot once you get it in the air. See you soon.

I think I have the boredom thing worse than anyone. Tried stretching a 550 to a 700 just because and at the same time, shrunk a 600 to a 550? Cabin fever must be contagious.

Cabin Fever

It gets to us all at one time or another. And thanks for all the positive comments....even from Stan! I love you guys!!!

Ok, time to move on. Cut what was left off the top of the doghouse. I'll install some mounting blocks to attach the new top to the fuselage and it will also be used as the top plate for the quad arms. I cut one out of cardboard fist to see how it will look before I go and cut one out of fiberglass. Pretty happy with the way it looks. I think I'll also mount the DJI GPS sensor in the middle of the circle. Also mounted the motors to the arms.

Cardboard

Hey Stan, leave my buddy Emile out of this....you comparing me to him is a big insult to Emile and I won't stand for it...and yes, I am standing....lol

Ps, But you did notice that the cardboard I used wasn't from a kat litter box....sorry Emile but I had to say it!!!!

No more cardboard!

Well I got the top cover cut out of fiberglass and used a piece of bass wood with blind nuts for the top mount.

I also made the front mount/support out of bass wood and used blind nuts here too for the bottom connection.

So with the 3 mounting points I have, the "mechanics" so to speak are very solid. So now onto the wiring and setup and I'll be ready to test fly.

Something interesting I found when I test balanced the setup. I thought I would be tail heavy and I'm planning on cutting the boom at some point. But to my surprise, it balances just about right depending on where I locate the battery. And depending on how the test flying goes, will determine if I'm going to use a 3 cell or 4 cell pack. So not sure what I'm going to do with the boom at this time.
