Because past Makado owners do not lurk in the mikado forum , i thought this may be a good ace to get some info .
I am looking to sell / trade my Raptor e550 and get a LOGO ..i am by no means a 3D pilot , and hope someone can tell me what airfram to look for that is going to be less expensive than one that has all the latest improvements / changes .
My reason for switching to Mimado is simple ..i lime that there designs are unique looking and YES ..I want to find out what Mimado is all about .

I would start with a 550 model as it's perfect for wanting to use 1 6S pack and swinging 600mm blades for longer flights.
You can get about any part you want for any of the late models to current. If your buying brand new I would start with the 550SX as it's the newest of all upgrades and new cool colors. If you can find a used one that's a good deal then you can go that route. The 550SE had a V2 that came out with slide out battery tray and more room for battery...keep that in mind if you buy used.
Here is all the info on each model

Just to clarify,

the 550sx swings 550-565mm blades. If you want to swing 600mm blades, you would want to get the 550se. You could also get a 550se and then just put smaller main blades on it.

The only differences between the se and sx are the main blades, tail boom, tail supports, belt, the TR control rod, and depending on flying style/motor...maybe a different pinion. (and if you are buying new, the canopy and fin color)
I run a 16t 0.7 pinion on my 550sx / 15t 0.7 on my 550se for bank 3 headspeeds of 2300 / 2000 respectively. You could drop 1 tooth on each but you would then notice a little rpm drop at the end of your flight if in bank 3 as the battery voltage drops.

My first "larger than 450 size" electric was the 550sx. Loved it so much I got a 550se the next year....then a 690sx...and finally a Logo700 this winter. I'm sharing the same lipo packs between all four models as well which is nice. (of course the 690 and 700 use them in pairs)

I'm still flying my V1 550sx and 550se. If you find a used one of those, they work perfectly fine and the need for the sliding batter tray on a single pack heli is debatable. The V2 are the 'current' version of the 550sx and se.

Appreciate the feedback
Ordered the Logo 550sx..looking forward to enjoying the build .
Always loved building ...back in the day i would build Tamiya buggy and truck kits for my friends because i loved it and most of them did not.
One of the things i really like about the 550SX is the monster strength to weight ratio,
The more i hear and the more i read , i think this heli will keep me very satisfied for quite a while ...but i know half way through the build , I will be thinking about the SE.

Both the SX and SE fly really well. When I first got the SE, I preferred it over the SX. After a year of flying the SE, I bought an extra NEO and got the SX flying again so I could try them back to back. Now I'm not sure which I prefer.

If you have a set of 600mm blades already, you could get away with using the SX tail supports and the SX pinion (14 or 15 will work well on an SE). The belt, boom, and control rod for an SE cost $40, so it's not a big issue if you want to try the SE configuration later on.

I love my 550SX but if you are after monster power you might want to get a bigger pinion than standard because in stock form you will struggle to get above 2100 rpm which is kinda slow for 550's. Yes the heli is light but that's the other problem, it doesn't like it when it's windy!

60% of the time, it works every time!

Good choice on the 550SX!

I also came from the Raptor E550 (in 2008). It was a tank.

Great for basic flight/learning but once you want to do aerobatics/3D, it was just too heavy.

2009 went with a Logo 500 3D (flybar) and never looked back. Then upgraded to V-Bar flybarless in 2011.

The new 550SX is the latest tweak/upgrade to the original 500 3D.

They are ballistic (2300HS) with:

Scorpion 4025-1100 (4:30 flights)
15t Pinion
6s 5000mAh pack

If you want to tone it down a bit (& gain some flight time):

Xnova 4020/2y-1000 (1900-2100 HS for 5:30+ flights)
14t Pinion

Flies great with so many different setups.

Logo 700 / 600 / 500 V-Bar NEO / Blade 180CFX / mCPX BL / Nano / V-Control

You made a wise choice, imo.

I have 4 600SXs, a 700XX, and an 800XX....they're all great.

They cruise like a Cadillac while maneuvering like a Porsche...lol

One suggestion I have, is to get some turnbuckles for the servo/swash links...and some for the swash/grip links.

FBL Rotors has them...and they are "Mikado certified" and pull-tested.

Happy flying.
