Ford cancels $1.6 billion Mexican plant

Ford Motor Co (F.N) said Tuesday it will cancel a planned $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million at a Michigan factory, after it had come under harsh criticism from President-elect Donald Trump for its Mexican investment plans.

Fields also endorsed "pro growth" tax and regulatory policies advocated by Trump and the Republican led Congress.

Ford executive chairman Bill Ford Jr. told reporters that he spoke with Trump to notify him of the decision. A Ford source said the decision was influenced by Trump's policy goals such as lowering taxes and regulations but there were no negotiations between Ford and the Republican over the decision to cancel the Mexico plant or invest in Michigan.

I hope this trend continues and grows...

we have way too many un-employed and under employed in this country... especially college grads (vo-tec all the way to grad school) that have student loan debt up the wazzo that cant afford to pay back the loans with the crap jobs Obama claims to have "created" or "saved".

will stuff get more expensive?... yeah a bit more, but at least we will have better paying jobs that can afford to pay for those cost increases....

it about time for the hammer to swing the other way.... and its gonna pick up speed as it does so.... lets just hope it doesnt come at too much of a cost.

remember....there is no such thing as a win -win... I just hope financially that Im on the winning side for once and stay there till i die.

I gave up a military career that payed quite nice at the cost of a personal life in exchange for a bachelors degree and a Masters. but the jobs are still more or less in a vacuum state... I hope I made the right choice

I hope I'm wrong about Trump's life being in danger...I just have that nagging feeling that won't go away.

Leftist are dangerous.

JFK, Ford, Reagan are were shot and that isn't a good record.

Things are different now. I worked my entire career without any time between jobs and was never fired, laid off, or down zoned.

I changed jobs to better my location without any thought of ever having to move to an undesirable location.

My son is also a mechanical engineer, but he is seeing a much different job market than I did.

Another factor is these horrible H1B visas being abused by American businesses right now.

Trump has not really stepped up to the plate on this issue and I don't think he will.

I would agree with H1B visas if there were NO alternative, but companies like Disney actually hire foreign workers and require Americans to train them or lose their severance pay.

Something has gotta change.

Really, Bill Clinton signed it? You might want to check your facts, or would a picture of Bush signing it help you?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North...Trade_Agreement

Following diplomatic negotiations dating back to 1990 among the three nations, U.S. President George H. W. Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexican President Carlos Salinas, each responsible for spearheading and promoting the agreement, ceremonially signed the agreement in their respective capitals on December 17, 1992.[6] The signed agreement then needed to be ratified by each nation's legislative or parliamentary branch.

-------

Serious question; are you really that ignorant of the facts or just have so much hatred for the left you have no issue with telling lies?

Clinton singed the ratification, even though Bush tried to rush it through so he could sign it.

yup...

however just as you said:
Clinton singed the ratification, even though Bush tried to rush it through so he could sign it.
so
ratification
Ratification is the official way to confirm something, usually by vote. It is the formal validation of a proposed law.
was bush an idiot... no (his buddies stood to make alot of money), but clinton could have killed it... but he didnt.
In three separate ceremonies in the three capitals on Dec. 17, 1992, President Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney signed the historic North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The framework agreement proposed to eliminate restrictions on the flow of goods, services, and investment in North America. The House of Representatives approved NAFTA, by a vote of 234 to 200 on November 17, 1993, and the Senate voted 60 to 38 for approval on November 20. It was signed into law by President Clinton on December 8, 1993, and took effect on January 1, 1994.
Remember Bush (41) was president from January 20, 1989 – January 20, 1993, So Clinton Had a nearly whole damn year to scrap it... why?
Diana Evans makes the same argument in 2004’s “Greasing the Wheels”: “Pork barreling,” she writes, “despite its much maligned status, gets things done.” In 1998, a major highway bill was passed thanks to earmarks; as a lobbyist told the National Journal at the time, “The projects are the glue that’s going to hold the damn thing together.” Around the same time, President Clinton won over a group of congressmen reluctant to go along with his controversial NAFTA bill by helping them secure earmarks for which they could then claim credit in their home districts. By giving the congressmen projects that would offset the wrath they might otherwise incur from voters, Clinton gave them political cover to go along with him.
and therefore figured out how to control politicians, via pork. this is where the money train really started picking up steam.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
