Hallo Gents,

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for 2017 to All !

I am writing to all FUTABA 18MZ gurus - need to get some advice / help with my new toy Futaba 18MZ Tx.
I received radio as new ( from I guess old stock ) and radio needs major firmware update to 2.7.0 but I do not own or have access to Windows based PC ( MAC is not working - and my frustration turned in to rage & my wife advised me to quit RC Helis for good )
So Is any one willing to copy latest Nov 2016 update to SD card and sell it to me ???
Since radio was manufactured around 2011-2013 I don't know if I need to upgrade it step by step
Eg. 2.1.0 then 2.2.0 then 2.3.0 ect. or just copy final version 2.7.0 ?
Gents, I am an old fossil trained on GMP Cobra, Kyosho 30DX and X-Cell 60 so Sorry for dumb questions!
Any one willing to help with update ? I will send you new SD card or will pay via PayPal for whole thing.

P.S. Please send me PM if You think that you can help

Regards,
Hirobodude

PM Sent

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

2Gb SD Card

That's the most the Futaba will accept. Hard to find nowadays.

I commiserate. I'm fifty two and have been flying R/C since I was ten. My first encounter with helis was watching a a Dubro Hughes 300, no gyro trying to beat itself to death. Then the same guy does the same thing to a Kalt Jet Ranger and later a Graupner Bell 212. I've seen Heliboys, Schluters even an old Hirobo UH 1H flown by a Japanese gentleman named Sakai. I learned on a blue Shuttle ZX and a Futaba FFZ with revo mix and a heading hold gyro. Now I'm also struggling with technology but I have to admit I enjoy it thoroughly!

Try your luck at old second hand camera shops. That's where I found my 1gb SD card.

I've been using a 4GB SD card in my 18MZ since I purchased it nearly four years ago. I've done every firmware update and have moved models on/off the card several times without issue.

Also many libraries have public access Windows computers and many PCs now have built in SD card support so perhaps you can check your local library if you really need a Windows PC.

Amazon always has old obsolete memory cards. They have 2 and 4 GB compact flash cards today.

They also have USB CP readers so I don't really know why that won't work on a Mac.

EDIT: OK I was thinking CF as on my 12Z. Amazon has 2 GB Sandisk SD on the second page. Just keep looking down the list. I bought 4 GB Sandisk for my other brand TX from Amazon.

Futaba 18 MZ - Need help with update !

It has something to do with formating SD card on Mac and the way Mac writes to the card ( that what I heard ) but I am not computer savvy person.

LAUNCH PAD / OTHER / DISK UTILITY

You have to appropriately FORMAT the SD card. Probably MS DOS (FAT32) but I don't have an 18MZ. Can someone check your card format? OR maybe the radio manual ? Ace Dude ?

FORMAT is hidden on a Mac under ERASE.

I'm not too familiar with Macs. However, if you can find someone with or have access to a Windows PC you can use the SD Card Formatter to reformat the card for use in an 18MZ.

OK I successfully formatted an SD card on my Mac Mini. Even has an SD slot. Just select ERASE and put MS-DOS as the format. It does FAT32 automatically probably based on the disk size.

That should do it. Just copy the folder hierarchy from the zip file to the SD card, insert it into the 18MZ, flip the update switch and power it on. After it completes and the 18MZ is shutdown flip the update switch again. Make sure the 18MZ is fully charged before doing the update.

I, too, had a problem finding the required SD card for my 18SZH. Finally found a couple on the rack at Staples. They were even marked down for clearance.

I bought one at Walmart and the TX would not read it !

Got Sandisk (ancient and obsolete) from Amazon and it worked fine.

If you have a card that doesn't work try reformatting it with the SD Formatter (see link in my earlier post). I'd also recommend formatting it for an older OS/smaller partition size. Might not get the full capacity of the card, but it may work.

Tried that. Probably from a previous discussion. No good. Some cards are just crap - Duracell. I like old stock Sandisk or Lexar. Had to buy two SD card readers to get one that worked ! Nothing at Fryes worked. Got one at Walmart that was OK.
