what motor and gearing should I use for a 8s ?

There are a lot of gearing options:
- MOD .7 or 1?
- type of ESC

But for the most part, somewhere in the range of 890kv would work.

almost all the motors out there will work good, just stay away from the Scorpion with the smooth canisters. They didn't work well for me.

I've been good ... just busy with something else besides heli.

Which model are you looking at?

A club mate who is a very accomplished flier was breaking one way bearings on his 550. Going to 8S is going to be even harder on the OWB.

Just because you increase voltage does not mean you increase power. 2400 HS on 6s and 2400 HS on 8s are going o the the same thing. 8s may be more efficient (may be heavier too).....Ron

If he were to keep for example the 4025-1100 that comes with the 550 he will definitely draw more current.

I understand the whole setup thing and yes if a lower Kv motor is chosen around 820 then the motor would draw less current but overall power and flight time would probably stay the same.

WC talked about creating a beastly setup so I assumed he was looking to get more power into the system.

There is still a max HS you can go with. No matter how you get there, you still have a limit. at 8s, he also may be over driving the motor past it's recommended max rpms....

for less bogging try using a higher gear ratio
I don't know what's available but maybe try an 11:1 gear ratio

A Logo 550SX spinning 2400 HS on 6s does not bog...at all even at 14 degrees of pitch
