he fell off the wagon
I wonder how that term started. I get confused because , I always picture the wagon hauling booze, so when you fall off, no more booze.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

There are diferent stories on how that saying started.
Perhaps the most common one says it derives from prisoners who were on their way to jail on the back of a wagon. They were allowed one last drink in the local pub before the enforced temperance inside.
Another variatìon involves prisoners on the way to be hanged might be let off the wagon to have a drink in the way to the gallows.

"met the man at Oshkosh when I was a kid and his show was in it's peak popularity. Interesting man for sure."

Wow.....you'll really like his book, then....

There was a "Col. Lard"....and a "Gen. Moore"....as he wrote about in his book...names were changed to protect the "innocent".....

"Moore" was friendly with B. in reality.....B. hated L....and when he was a captive on Truk(he watched the Marianas Turkey Shoot from the ground)...and was interrogated by the Japs.....the only thing he "gave up" was where L. was.....

Ya gotta read that book....
