I did not know Steve Helms personally, nor did he know me, but his name is so recognizable in the hobby that I was immediately saddened to hear of his passing. He touched people beyond those he knew. Godspeed Mr. Helms, now you will be flying with the angels.

I never met Steve - which only makes him all the more remarkable simply because I feel a real loss at his passing. I can only hope when my days are over, people I have never met will feel like I have touched their lives in the same positive way Mr Helms touched mine. It's an ambitious goal but with inspirations like Steve, I can keep trying.

Steve, your passing is sad news. You are a great friend and I am thankful for knowing you. You are mentor in the hobby biz and as a person. I'll miss seeing ya events and talking on the phone. Rest easy my friend. Thank you for everything.

Steves' passing was such a sad thing for me to process. It brought to the surface a flood of wonderful memories that I probably wouldn't have if not for him. Ted Schoonard of Miniature Aircraft USA introduced me to Steve in early 1990. I was flying the "other" brand of radio at the time. Steve set me up as a sponsored pilot and I was off to the races, as they say. I would have never accomplished what I did with R/C helicopters over the next 22 years without his friendship and support via Futaba. I have thanked him so many times over the years for his help, but it never seemed like enough.

I can honestly say that I have never met anyone with such a big heart and willingness to help others. He received so much joy from helping others and seeing them succeed in the hobby. Never once did I ever hear him say anything negative about anyone. He was so far above anything that petty.

I got to see quite a few people at Steve's celebration of life service that I had not seen in many years. There were several people that spoke during the service and most all of them got pretty choked up and the wonderful memories that they shared left a lot of us wiping our eyes. I came away from there with the feeling that he was loved by so many people.

I try very hard in life to be as good a person as I can to others, but I will never measure up to Steve as he set the bar so high.

My very best wishes to Steve's family.

I met Steve in 71 or 72, he live in Ft.Worth then, lost track of him for a while, won a Bergen 4 stroke conversion for a M.A. kit at Mt. Pleasant in 94 or 95, first 2 gallons love the machine, went south after 2 gallons, took it to IRCHA with me in 95, 96, was working on it again and saw Steve, hadn't see him in over 20 years, Futaba was the inporter of YS then, Steve and Tom Dooly work on my helicopter for 4 hours and finaly took the engine back with him and sent me a new one, he will never be replace, I'm glad I can call him my freind. Steve's passing is very sad of this great friend to all of us. But his legacy is we could all be a little more like him in our words and deeds. Its great to have had such a splendid example to follow. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Thanks for the inspiration Steve.
