Steve Helms

This is a sad occasion, but as we pay our respects to a pillar of this great bonding hobby let's never forget those many times we laughed and joke with Steve as he carefully taught, showed, and often explained how or why this should be done this way, an man with great knowledge, experience and no how, the kind of guy we all hope to be like and be love by all at sometime in our lives let's not be sad let's celebrate and rejoice in it and wish him safe travels as he goes to his rightful place in heaven...Amen...Amen...Amen...So mote it be.

Steve

Mr. Helms will be missed. I can think of many occasions at flying events and competitions that he'd come by and hang out. Steve wealth of knowledge was always great to tap into. You're having engine issues Steve would go to the line with you and listen, say land do a few adjustments and work with you until you got it right.

Alllright now, Steve would say and then move on. I wish there were more guys like him.

Condolences to his family.

This is extremely sad news.

Steve was a truly great guy, and will be deeply missed by the RC community.

Although Steve and I worked for competing companies, we developed a friendship over the years as in the end, we are all modelers first.

Ben, please e mail me at len@jramericas.com with arrangement information.

A sad day for the RC community for sure. Len

I purchased Radio South from Steve back in 1985 when he went to work for Futaba. Steve taught me so much. My involvement in Pattern competition was a direct result of Steve. I had the pleasure of working for him for several years. I attended many pattern contests with Steve and was the Contest Director for the 1983 World Champs where Steve was a Team member. I have so many fond memories of Steve..... I know he was fighting cancer for the last few years and it was tough. God Speed, my friend! Thanks for everything you did for me! My condolences to Molly and the family....

RIP Steve Helmes!

When on a trip to California some time ago, I met up with Steve who immediately treated me as his best friend. He asked me to come out to Tour Futaba USA although they were in the process of closing down. He was so proud to have worked there and what they accomplished. He talked about his love of flying telling me that when he passed he wanted to be holding a transmitter in his hands. I'll never forget that and the way he treated me on that trip.

What a gentleman he was to the hobby!

Ben, should memorial donations be sent directly to the funeral home? If not, would you be able to get addresses for either the Cancer Institute Foundation or th church?

Thank you!

I met Steve in 1991 or 1992 and knew of his experience with Pro-Line and Radio South from reading the model magazines. He always offered support and encouragement with the helicopter flying. One of the greats of the RC industry.
