Hi Guys,

I have decided to use the Brain 2 because of its bluetooth functionality to my phone or tablet for programming. It just seems that any compony that is not up to date like this, is far behind. Decided to trade my BeastX Plus for a Brain 2.

Anyway, I have a Hobbywing Platinum 130 ESC. My question is regarding the Brain 2 governor. In order to use it (and not use the ESC governor, which is always an option) do I have to solder a sensor to the ESC wires? I would love it if the ESC already had this RPM output wire coming out of it! No?

If I do have to solder this sensor, two quick additional questions:
1) Which is the appropriate sensor (read about the Hobbywing one) and
2) Where in the Brain 2 does it plug into?

As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Franz

hobbywing has a signal wire if its v4. only issue is you have to setup the esc as fixed wing. just like ikon2 there is a diagram for wiring in software. but anyways its marked as gov under servo 4. I found a bug in the ikon setup where going from governor menu to swash menu turn on the motor and i could not shut it down with radio or any other software menu. had to pull power. lucky it was only a 470L and no blades. also the align rebranded hobby wing 130 is cheaper.

If your ESC does not have an RPM signal wire the HW RPM sensor works great with the Brain, have this setup on three helis.

Thanks!

Fantastic. Thanks. Mine is the HW 130 V4 so theoretically it has the RPM signal wire.

Thanks again!

V4 has the wire and it works fine. I have an align 130A P V4 working with Vbar Neo using the signal. I had 470L with ikon2 and 60A hb P V4 now it has a Vbar Neo.

The Brain works great with the HW V4 ESC RPM input also.

Where does the throttle signal wire go?

ok. I see the port on the Brain2 called "gov". I am assuming that this is where the RPM input signal from the ESC goes? Or is this where the throttle signal wire goes out to the ESC? Depending on which it is, Where does the other go? I only see 4 output channels and I need 5 (for throttle).

Another quick question, if the ESC has no BEC (using 2s lipo directly), do I need to plug the other "+ -" wire form the ESC into the Brain2?

Thanks!

Got it. ESC goes in Channel 1

OK. Saw the diagrams and it seems that the ESC input goes out of Channel 1 (thro) on the Brain2. I assume that when you tell it that you are in Spektrum Sat mode, that this channel is an outgoing signal from the Brain. I always understood it as an input signal from the receiver.

This would mean that the RPM signal from the ESC goes into the "gov" port in the Brain2. All ok there.

PLEASE CONFIRM IF YOU HAVE A BRAIN2

Now my last question is if I need to plug in the extra plus/minus wire coming from the ESC (the one that's separated from the RPM input) and where to do it? Any free channel on the Brain2?

Thanks

Franz

This diagram is more clear about the connection of extra plus/minus wires.

What you stated above is correct. Just remember that the transmitter sends the Brain FBL the throttle signal, the Brain sends that signal out to the ESC. Very important that the transmitter setup tab is correct. Be sure and keep the default min/max Brain throttle settings of 1000/2000 in the governor tab and teach the ESC throttle end points how you would normally with a linear throttle curve before final set up of the governor.

Any free servo port can be used to power the unit, or utilize a y-harness if no ports are available. Never hook up power of any sort to the 4/5/6 channel port.
