First time

We have plans back in Texas on that Saturday evening.
Should we still try to go for a couple days ?
Or does the main stuff happen on the weekend ?

When do you have to leave back for Tx? Thurs and Friday can get busy,
mainly Friday, w. centerstage demos, speed event, all vendors up to
speed by then, seminars, etc. Big party on Friday night, lot of good
stuff those two days for sure. BUT..... Saturday is THE big day, VERY
busy and seems to go by in.......minutes!!

SPEAKING OF THE BIG PARTY FRIDAY NIGHT, IT'S ON SWARM

Are you ready? Only 8 weeks until the SWARM CREW starts rolling into IRCHA 2017. That's right, the SWARM gang is getting ready, planning, brainstorming and will be ready to fire up the grills, deep fryers, smokers and the night.
The FAA may have folded up their tent but the SWARM hasn't. So,
start making your plans, fixing your helis, roundup your camping gear, hiding your IRCHA cash and get ready, it will be here before you know it.

I'm happy that our group has decided to make one last go for the Friday night SWARM party this year! We have lots of fun and appreciate the kind words and donations we receive. I will say, this may be the LAST year we host this party.

Here's a short SWARM history lesson. A handful of 5-6 SWARM members from Wisconsin camped at the field year after year before it was common practice. It was quite, not many flyers - we had a campfire and drank beers till the sun came up. We told stories, we cooked our favorite foods. We rolled fresh rumballz.....my mouth is watering just typing that word...rumballz. (Credit to the rumball originator - Jeff Borowski)

As more people started camping at the field, they would stop by as they strolled around with a beverage in hand. Introducing themselves and bringing stories and sharing food and beverage alongside the campfire. The container of rumballz were passed around again and again.

Then our IRCHA SWARM group had a falling out with the local WI SWARM group so we disbanded. They did not want anything to do with the cheeky shenanigans we get into at IRCHA. So we did. We even tried changing the name of the party....Helipalooza, Friday night party, etc....they never stuck. SWARM will forever be burned into the night. So despite being from the same area and flying together at the same field, we don't have the support of the local SWARM heli club here in WI. They choose NOT to participate.

More and more new friends came year after year to rekindle friendships, share stories, tell tall tales and grow the camaraderie of our niche rc heli group.

Soon now we were hosting a 300-400 person party in the middle of cornfield in Indiana!. Manned solely by the few original SWARM members and those we have taken under our wing and call our own. 120lbs of chicken wings, 150 ears of corn, 50-60 corndogs, 500 rumballz, gallons of iced tea, bags of fresh popcorn....then add the bucket of zesty fresh corn relish, melt in your mouth smoked pork shoulder, fresh and juicy CA oranges, fresh baked bread, tubs of jambalaya you'd swear was straight from LA, shish kabobs, apple-pie-shine and on and on that has showed up over the years from those that would bring a dish to pass.

You may see us Thursday afternoon under our circus tent rolling the party rumballz by hand....a process which takes us nearly 3+ hours to complete! Those that know, stop by and roll up their sleeves, get those blue gloves on and help with the process. THANK YOU, again! We love to share this treat with everyone and it take a lot of time and effort to make enough as they go so fast Friday night!! Damn shame they are sooo tasty! hahaha.

As time goes on and attendance changes, sadly, people lost track of our purpose and simply stand in line for free food and drink. Demanding free water, complaining about our choice of music. Forgetting to bring something to share or pass....you don't need to bring enough for everyone, just enough to show your appreciation.

We've worked hand-in-hand with the IRCHA board over the years to continue to have this party. It wasn't an easy decision for them to allow it as its size requires additional cost to have local law enforcement on-sight for the party in case of a problem. In addition to the multiple what-if scenarios a party of this size brings.

For those that have truly appreciated our efforts over the years - THANK YOU. We see you bring your favorite dish or mason jar of drink and set it on our tables. We see you help set-up and clean-up after or party. We see look out for others and let us know when something needs our attention. You stoke the campfire to keep our guests warm. This party is for YOU.

I hope we can continue our Friday night tradition at IRCHA. It will depend if we can get back to our roots. Bring a night heli, bring your favorite dish to pass or cook, bring a grill, lend a hand, bring a story and a smile. YOU ARE ALL INVITED.

You'll find me behind a fryer with my buddies looking out into the crowd - amazed by the attendance, hoping we can continue our tradition next year and the years to come.

So give it some thought before you make the trek to Muncie. Make some plans with us or your friends to help out in any way you see fit.

Four weeks to funville

Summer is zooming by, get ready and pack your bags.
IRCHA will be well under way 4 weeks from today and 4 weeks from tonight the SWARM PARTY will be in full swing.
After a few years away it is rumored our old friend from Wren Jet, Ron will make a triumphant return with the big smoker wagon from Hell and will churn out some delicious pork tenderloins. Let's hope that comes true. Meanwhile, the rest of the swarm guys are making plans for the potluck heli soiree. See you there and get those stories shined up and those night helis charged up.

Anyone with current experience flying with small lipos in carry on luggage? I've always been able to before but saw a new restriction on SouthWest today when I checked in online

Inverted IS more fun!

You can still fly with LiPos with American Airlines. Carry on luggage the Batteries have to be under 160Wh with no limit on how many batteries as long as it fits in your carry on. Keep them at storage charge and you will be fine. Example 5000 mah 6s = 111 Wh. Can't travel with large Drone Batteries..

When did the limit increase? It used to be that batteries above 100Wh were limited to four by TSA, but you could carry any number of batteries below that threshold.
