I'm looking for an out of the box system for a Fire department to do aerial shots of working fires and for Fire investigation.

I've been flying RC helicopters for 20 years but figure you guys know this better than me -- so here goes??

DJI Phantom

It is probably going to be a DJI Phantom 4 with a 4K camera. I hope think the simplicity will sell over their inspire model. Recent articles indicate the 4 is a better value. Need at least 3 batteries and plan on replacing.

I hate that I have to promote DJI to answer your question... but when you limit the selection to out of the box, it has to be DJI. The thing that I like about the inspire is the ability to get the landing gear up and out of the frame of view.

They are getting a pretty good premium for that at the moment. I expect some form of zooming to appear in the next year. The camera resolution will not increase significantly because 4K is pretty darn good for everything.

Thanks that got me reading about the Inspire.

I went with out of the box because I did not want to be building and doing all the repairs. on another note what is your second choice?

I have been looking myself and the Inspire 2 looks amazing, with a lot of new features. Hands down my choice.. And believe it is still on preorder. Let us know what you go with.

Based on your budget

I would chose phantom 4 Pro. It has collision avoidance on all side compared to inspire which has it only on front.

Phantom has everything covered in auto modes and is easy to fly as a single person and because of its price you can have 2 units. 1 as a back up.

Remember when it comes to drones 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

Low budget you can find the DJI Phantom 2, cheap lots on Ebay, you can get a bunch for the price of the newer ones. You can get a downlink to hook to Ipad, which I'd get if I was that interested in flying one.
So the newer ones have more features, but the older ones do the same thing, and there are a bunch out, there, shouldn't have trouble getting parts cheap.
