No Problems!!!

I really think this thread has taken a bit of a wrong turn!!!
Jim gave us the info (ty)....a few have taken this to mean we need another scale event to replace Top Gun ....some have given info on places and what might make a new event work..... I think this about sums it up.,. Oh, and no drama at all intended!!
My post was only intended to say, hey, if Frank doesn't think we are worth the little extra he had to do, than so be it..no anger, no drama, no problem...
To me, our group is really a small one... do we need another scale event... I don't think so (JMHO).. we need to support, and build the ones we have...
NATS, IRCHA (two in one trip as noted),
Joels event in the NE (great gathering, I am sure they would be glad to see a bunch of us there... ROAD TRIP???),
and last but not the least, DALTON... (maybe Dalton is/or should be considered out Top Gun event!!)
Everyone has ideas, and none are bad, and all the input is a good thing to keep our small corner of the hobby alive!!
So keep on posting... it's all good..
With this said, let's take a good look at 2017 and see where we can all meet up!!!
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year to our scale family!!

Good post Stan, I think it's a good idea to support the events that already exist. I know there are several already that I haven't been able to get too and should try harder to support. And don't forget our friends out on the west coast with Gonzalo's HSM, Spinner's crew with the Palooza, and Eric's Cajun Helifest.

So many events so little time

You may not appreciate another scale event Stan, you are in the middle and can reach several events. Dalton is about as far as I want to drive and so if TG goes away, I will get to two events a year, one of which (OHB) is not a scale event.

The prospect of a spring time fun fly in Panama City appeals greatly and I will be there with Dennis and Evan and if no one else turns up, we will get lots of flying in

There is another reason why TG will probably not happen next year, but until Darrell releases that information it will have to remain under wraps. It's just one more thing to discourage us from even trying to persuade him to let us have the event, and I know when I am not wanted

I spoke to Darrell and he said I could explain.

Frank has decided that the sponsorship money he received this year was not enough and he wants another $1000. We also have to buy our own trophies but he gets to keep the entry fees of $100 per entrant.

The major sponsor this year is already considering backing out and a further $1000 will just about finish them off. Darrell has no chance of raising some $6000 for the land useage and the trophies by next year in the current helicopter climate.

So Frank has killed the helicopter Top Gun regardless of his reason for doing so, too much work or not enough money.

Good reason for me to go to Panama City, support the scale community and fly. I look forward to seeing old (Not literally () friends and meeting new ones.

Now, isn't that typical. Instead of getting some money to offset the cost of the entire event, he looses all money generated by the contestants and the sponsors of the helicopter portion. Way to go Frank. I'm glad to hear that he wanted to pour the entire entrance fee from the helicopter pilots into the aircraft event and provide nothing for it, which shows his true colours. I like the sound of Panama City, too.

Nats

I'm just wondering how many guys are planning on competing in the 2017 Scale Nats....????

The reason I ask is because so many seemed to be bummed out that there won't be a "Top Gun" next year (2017) and with all the talk about having another one or two funfly/competitions somewhere, the Nats seem like a dirty word now...lol

Like I said before, we can never have too many events across the country but I'm trying to figure out why so few support the Nats. Darrell and I have talked at great length a number of times over the past few years and we can't seem to come up with a reason or way to increase the number of participants. Especially since the Nats was moved to just a few days before IRCHA. I know a few of you seem really up for another event but have never been to the Nats...or would rather attend a different event instead of the Nats...????? So why isn't the Nats also on everybody's list.

Looking for any and all input. Thanks! Mark

the impression I get about that is that many think their flying and or building isn't good enough for the level of "expertise" the nats portray and are a bit intimidated. Ive never let it bother me that my flying and building isn't near as good as some of the big names. I still believe that practice and creativity even with a minimum budget can bring home the gold.

"expertise"

Thanks Emile but that's why the "Sportsman" class and the "Team scale" class were started. But this hasn't seemed to help. And along with the fact that we had around 15 competitors in Top Gun last year but only got 2 at the Nats. And if someone feels that they are good enough for "Top Gun", then why not the Nats?????

Mark,
I retire in about 20 days. I will finally be able to dedicate time to this hobby like I've always wanted.

So the NATS is on my list now, along with as many other heli meets as I can afford to travel to

My .02$ and from what I have heard is two fold.. the first is (as Emile mentioned) the fear that they or their equipment isn't good enough for "that level" of competition...
Second is that, for many, they can't manage enough time off to do NATS and IRCHA.. so they make a choice to do one... and that is usually IRCHA.

All the other events are single activities, and "less intense" if you will...

If I may comment as a rookie about the comment regarding folks fearing not being good enough in any way to show up at these meets.

I can say from experience that you couldn't meet a more welcoming and helpful bunch of guys as the ones that are involved in scale helicopters.
They will bend over backwards to help anyone who needs it.

SO... those of you out there who have any reservations about showing up at a scale meet with your scale heli, don't hesitate to show up cause you will not regret it!!
