Orlando heli blowout! Mainly a 3D event, but i usually cruise over there to meet with old friends and get a couple of flights in, in one corner when no 3D maniacs are near.

This year i took Marcus, the Lama and the 407. Marcus wouldn't fly yhe Lama but grabbed the 407 and had fun with that.

I guess I have lost that heli and gained a Lama. We are both happy about that.

While wandering around, on the Esprit model stand I found these.

They have a range from 2 blade to 5 blade and they seem to be very well made. Super smooth and with J arms and a swashplate. The 5 blade one is around $750

Great looking head for a 407 or 429 and easy to convert to standard links (get rid of the J arms). They look oddly familiar, like this is the second design iteration of an existing rotor head. Who's the mfr?

Esprit seem to be importing a lot of stuff from Czechoslovakia (yeah, I had to look up how to spell it)

This is another one of their imports. Its new and is not on their web site yet. I dont know who makes it and if it is Czech, I probably couldn't pronounce it anyway.

I agree with you Barry, dump the J arms and use the BD that you can buy from....Esprit models

Be warned, its a solid head and is heavy, but is very nice super smooth and is crying out for a nice heli to put underneath it. 10mm or 12mm mainshaft option.

Nice looking rotorheads, didn't CNChelicopters.com make heads that looked like that, are they plug and play?

I followed the link for the rotor head and stumbled on this gem. It's their MI-8 kit in 800 size, set up for Goblin mechs. It has full surface details with rivets, vacuum bagged FG lay up, articulated billet aluminum LG (steerable nose wheel) and scale heads... The price on the website was 1630 euros for the kit with windows cut out and scale LG. Future project...

Damn! Now I started some thing. I gotta get me one of those. I was wondering about it but was put off buying from Nigeria, but czech, no problem and the Euro is about level with the dollar right now.

I just happen to have a Goblin set of mechanics with a 4 blade setup and a drop down gearbox. it would easily convert to 5 blades, and I have a nice tail gearbox. They supply the angle gearbox so I dont need much else.

Hmmmmmmm. I have been looking at color schemes already.

That head looks like a newer version of the super scale head I purchased from RCA over a year ago. I wasn't a fan of all the nuts and bolts required to assemble the head and there wasn't a good way of adjusting the slop in the spindles of each blade grip. Maybe they fixed them. It would have been a huge improvement had they at least tapped threads in the head rather than using nuts to secure every screw.

Had a great time at the OHB! The mid air collision was spectacular. Being it was team sponsored pilots, I was not too bummed about a couple of helis destroyed, it was great entertainment and made up for the extra cost of registration this year.

Peter, the Lama looks amazing. Your grandson is a natural, very smooth on the sticks. It was nice to look away from all the piro flipping, out of control, fly it like you just stole it, and seeing some very nice slow and easy controlled flying.

My 500C was flying great, need some more minor tweaking. Just wish there was more room to do some big air flying but that is ok as there is plenty of it where I fly at home.

Ron

I didn't crash. I just ran out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time!
