Hi,

Can anybody suggest a good way to convert an old nitro Hirobo EX2 to electric? I have an SWM version with the FFZIII head and Futaba electronics. I would like to go for an FBL conversion as well. I intend to get back into F3C.

Hoping to get suggestions for parts to use, electronics and other gear.

Thanks!

Search Freya Electric conversion on RR for several night's worth of reading on your topic of interest.

Scorpion had a mount but the mounting hole spacing for the motors today needs to be opened up. It was for the Ex 2 as I recall.

Still no problems, only solutions, governed by MARSHALL AMPLIFICATION. I'm a HIROBO Fan, R U?

That mount would make things easiest but its made of unobtanium since they stopped making it
. The last ones would accommodate the wider bolt spacing, but any Scorpion 4035 series or Pyro 700 would/will fit it.
Ruedi should still have a TMRF conversion.

Go check out my Shuttle conversion to 120° swash. Changing to electric involves a custom motor mount and appropriately kv'd motor while retaining the clutch or an extension pole to the original pinion if the motor can't be shoved in enough to bypass an extender. Nitro motors run about half of an electric max rpm wise, besides, you would not do the heli well to run main rpm past a tiny bit higher than stock intent.

Odd, I'm seeing a spate of 900 >< kv motors because of the g and d380's, prior there were little motor offerings for the correct kv and a custom one would have been the only way other than a step down gear drive (primary) out to the original gearing. Example, an sk3 1600kv motor I have for a 500/550 would have had to be primarily geared down 2:1 to get the same as an 800kv motor (x's 6s 25v= 20000rpm, factor 80% after efficiency losses and it's down to 16000rpm at the clutch bell, the rpm of a nitro motor).

That's how it works.

Show me some pics of your heli and I can help.

Actually they had 25 of them last time I got one not too long ago. Maube they ran out now. I'll check out the TMRF one too. I have seen the others but not an ex one.
