RF 3.5 (with assistance from knife-edge)
Tried a buddy's
Phoenix once (early version),
had to tweek the settings on that one as well to get the right feel.

Why was x disappointing

Although graphics quality is subjective, to me the graphics in RF 7.5 are better, and I have the hardware to run RF X at good frame rates.

There are only 7 helis included in X, and only 3 of them are FBL.

To me, X feels more like a game than a simulator.

Many people are reporting the performance is very lacking, and if you have to dumb down the settings just to get it work seems counter productive.

They came out with a patch that is supposed to increase performance. They created a new flying field with lower textures to increase frame rates, but the other flying fields run about the same.

I sent my copy back and Tower Hobbies gave me a full refund.

If I remember rightly you can change the scale of the models to make them bigger/smaller.

60% of the time, it works every time!

I never got to 5, I think mine was 3 or 3.5. I always used it with no sound anyway (watching TV at the same time!).

I fly Phoenix regularly, like the scaling up factor, I fly a 700 scaled up inside the sports hall to practice maneuvers and slooowwww piros. No forgiveness in those walls .. also had great service from them when I moved & went to a new computer. Andy

Inverted IS more fun!

I own and have flown most of the simulators. RC and GA Regarding RC sim; I feel that RF7.5 is the best available with the best feature set and ability to modify the aircraft and environment. If you know your way around RF7.5, you really like it.

The new Real Flight Version X is not an upgrade, it is a brand new sim from ground up. You need to take the system requirement very seriously. You will likely have to spend serious coin to have a system that runs RF-X well. I am talking $450 or so for a graphics card, lots of system ram, and a large power supply.

The jury is still out on RF-X, but in a year or two, as computer systems catch up, it will be the best in the market I am forecasting.

That's what I liked about Phoenix, even a cheap laptop would run it well.

Rf 7.5
Rf x won't even properly run on my computer even with settings as low as possible. I think a very high end gaming computer is needed to run it. I have a MacBook Pro that's about 5 years old

wc_w,
Don't you find yourself "tweeking" the settings on the other brands as well (?)
My Buddy's Phoenix was one-of the best at that time and just knowing what to modify (from using my RF) made a big difference.

I would also like to agree with the statements about "graphics-cards" and "ram", etc., ....
these are definitely things to consider when purchasing a Sim. set-up.

I'm always up for checking out other Sim.'s, unfortunately I believe that our LHS is downsizing when it comes to Helicopters

OK, Cool
I have changed things like Main-rotor blades as well (trying to get something with led's for Night-flights) but the RF3.5 is fairly limited when it comes to this.
I did find a really nice T-Rex 700N vbar that uses Main / Tail rotor night-blades over-on knife-edge, it's one-of my faves to Fly

One of these days I must make the trip to IRCHA and checkout all the latest and greatest !!

Sim. ON !!!
