HelicopterIRCHA › Prospective ircha build contest?

I was reading a post one day and just now remembered "frankenheli" out of the entire thread.

I also remember at ircha a couple years ago, GAUI putting on a contest to see who could build a 450 from the ground up the fastest. The first pilot with a flying heli wins the model.

Put these two together;

Just to spice things up with all the recent politics going on about flying machines at ircha 2017, WHAT IF there were a franken-heli build off? (flying area under supervision of AMA so no one gets butthurt) Pilots donate miscellaneous model parts throughout the week, and when build-off time comes, builders are limited to the pile o' parts donated to create a flying machine. Anything goes as long as it flies, points added for uniqueness. I imagine this to be an event to push resourcefulness of individuals, and teamwork if the case may be.

I can see this as being a hit, or at least a BUNCH of laughs, which is worth everything in the world. What are your thoughts?

Mr. Potato Head flies

Alien vs Predator. 2 Frankenhelis. One electric and one nitro, assembled from donated parts and donated crashed airframes from the week all safe for use or reuse. After successful daytime flight go for broke with one manufactured nightblade and one DYI nightblade, some glow wire and a few LED's and we have a winner.

Got an old Gohbee 90 belt-drive frame. Mate that up with a SAB 700 tailboom. A Gohgoblin or Goblee. I'll even throw-in an RJX FBL head for TREX & Raptor conversion.

Has to be enough orphaned Avants out there to make some kind of a HELITACO or TWrecks

I love it!

But with IRCHA banning home made night blades I don't see it.

Hell I'd be surprised to see them do the build a Heli really fast contest again.

Goblin! where have you been all my life?

dilarotor gets it!

That's the spirit!

I believe that working with the AMA from square one will yield a more positive chance of such an event happening, and a more positive overall outcome for event attendees.

This event seems to be only a few phone calls away. hmm....I'm getting ideas that are easy to act upon....

Just in case you guys missed it. DIY Night blades are clear for normal use.

Concerning a frankenheli, or whatever you want to call it. There are many who have made their own mechanics. The general rule with the AMA is that you are supposed to have your first test flights prior to flying at an event.

Okay. With this rule in mind, think about those who crash and rebuild during the week of IRCHA to keep flying. Enforcing this rule may be impossible without authoritative power of the FAA and other controlling agencies.

So, what do we have to do to work around this rule that gets broken at every fun fly, and still have the event happen?

If you want me to submit your request for formal submission to the AMA safety committee for approval, then please word it in a proper request and I will be happy to submit it for you.

The only concern I have for a Frankenheli is that you want to cram together parts that were never meant to work together. If the AMA Safety Committee is ok, then we will have no problem with it.
