A large package arrived yesterday. Was cleaning the yard and the mailman came around the corner for a signature...yahoo!!

Last night I opened the boxes and laid everything out on the bench. I couldn't wait to dig into it so I ended up staying up until 2am+ working on it. So far I got the head, tail, and tail boom assembled, next up are the main frames.

Everything is going together perfectly, fit and finish looking great

Check out the pictures below, I'll update more as I get along.

Is this a new Whiplash version. If so, what is different from the previous Whiplash?

Yes its a new design

The gear train is all different, one way is now in the main gear, bell is better supported with additional bearings, fit of bell to bearings is now very nice and tight (better tolerances). Also fit to mainshaft and its bearings is now very tight also. Tail rotor is driven by a crown gear. Main gear is now CNC, tail gears also CNC one metal (lifetime) one delrin. Shaft and bearing fit in tail box also now better tolerances. Upgraded pitch slider sleeve on tail shaft, upgraded tail hub. Pinion is screw on removable, now helical to main gear. Torque tube now goes through the tail drive gear for better alignment, now made out of different wound carbon so there is no twist, and the list goes on. Might be more I can't think of. Off the top of my head a new painted canopy blue and yellow along with a painted matching fin.

In a nutshell, its an all improved version of the Whiplash I've been flying very nicely for 4 years.

Video of the maiden would most likely be boring, have to take it easy to break in a new Hanson 300 motor, the most interesting part would be 3D autos I guess...! After a few tanks, its going to rock and roll

Here is what I got done this afternoon in acouple of hours

You can see the gears, I took a picture of the bottom before putting all the radio gear in. After dinner, back to work!

This could be great post for newbies to gas. From how to break in a gas motor to getting to the point or rock and roll.
Just sayin'

Looks like a great kit!
Just looking at your progress and the kit makes me want to try another gasser!

Its late

And I can't stop working for some reason, so here are a couple more pictures of the progress so far.

So I got the servos in, the tank is in but not plumbed yet, landing gear on, switch, canopy mounts, etc.

I was going to stop but couldn't help myself break out the generator mount kit and install the generator motor. As you can see I still need to build my generator, but the motor with the mount fits like a glove, just plain awesome!

We're moving along, so tomorrow its electronics time.

Great to see MA up and going again and improving the original design.
Be great to hear what you think once you have logged a few flights.
Will you be using the 300 or the 310 Hanson motor?

Hey Raja...I think you meant to say the one way bearing is not in the clutch stack anymore. It is back where it should be...on the mainshaft!

I think you've been spending too much time working on your new Whippy and have become a bit sleep deprived! Of course I can't blame you, I would do the same thing, only call in sick at work a couple of days! LoL!

Have fun with the build and let me know how "she" flies!

I was wondering about the generator, With that installed, do you ever have to charge the flight pack?

No never

With my Whiplash v1 I went a whole year without charging the pack externally to prove a point. In general never, as long as you fly it often enough it will keep recharging in the air.

Mid day production update

Josef says yes in the future parts will be anodized for sure. Not going to be bare metal but he said they will be silver not grey as gray has variation in colors not the same from different vendors.

Just finished building the generator, before I put it in thought I'd take a picture to show mid day progress, hopefully by the end of tonight all will be completed less engine. Red LED is not attached to generator yet, I need to snake the wire for it through the frames and once arriving in the rear of the machine I'll solder it then. I changed the frame spacer in the rear from the dogbone style to the one side flat style like the ones on the motor plate to give me a flat surface to goop the generator LED to.
