Glass fiber have a lot more flex. When first starting out, you can get away with them on the smaller sizes, but CF is a noticeable improvement.

There is also a difference in quality CF blades vs cheap ones as long as you have progressed enough to tell the difference, It was a year or two of flying before I could appreciate the better blades on the small helis. Big helis are much more noticeable, tracking, flex, efficiency, etc.

fastflyer20 makes some good generalized points.

I would just like to add that there are some well designed and quality manufactured FG composite blades that are C/F reinforced that are better then many lower priced C/F blades that are on the market today that are of poor and unsafe design and of poor quality manufacture.

Quality comparisons?

I am fairly new to helis, been flying fixed wing for ten years or so, but want to know if anyone would be able to show me images of poor quality CF blades vs. high quality? It'd be nice to have a visual reference for beginners. Thanks in advance for the help!

Look closely at the carbon weave. If it is all messed up, they are poor quality. On the other hand, you can't actually see poor design. Some have a spar inside, some don't. The bolt hole can be reinforced, sometimes not.

Thanks guys. Makes sense to me that visual inspection can't catch everything. These helis pack a punch and what may only seem like a cosmetic defect can probably fail in a split second. So like much of the hobby, buy reputable brands and stay out of the bargain bin is the moral of the story here.
