Is it possible to remove the ratchet from the DX9 throttle stick and convert to a centering spring?

This mod is not for a heli application.

If my memory serves me well, there is NO spring on that axis in the gimbal housing (giving you the non-centering type stick movement).
You would need to add a spring (or springs) to get the results you're looking for.

I'm not for certain if there are "posts" for that axis to have springs attached to (?) but I believe that most gimbal housings are equipped with these posts on both axis'.

Google search brings-up this (maybe a solution for you here) ;

There is an airplane / sailplane version of the DX9, so of course it is possible

Call Horizon Hobbies support line. They will send you the parts.
Tell them you have a heli version and want to convert it to an airplane version

It actually turned out to be quite easy. There are a pair of screws that move a "spring/cam" thing on the gimble. This allows you to both center the stick as well as set the stick tension.

I just had to get brave enough to open the back of the TX, take a look, and experiment a little.

Thank you for all of the earlier replies.
