I forget what it has for a engine in it, but do believe that is indeed the way it sounds.

I had a 25% P51 (112" wingspan) with a 3w 150 inline twin that sounded like a Harley idling. That, is about what it sounded like in the air. The reason for the unique sound is that the engine was alternate firing. Most twins are boxer twins, in that they both fire at the same time. With the alternate firing there are two distinct explosions each revolution.

It was very easy starting also. I used to sit between the wing and prop and simply fling the prop around and it would take off running.

Cooling was another issue with one cylinder behind the other. I ducted the air to move across the engine sideways to cool both cylinders at the same time.

This amazing model is powered by a custom Kolm 4 cylinder inline . The timing is actually set off slightly on these motors to make them have that awesome rough sound.

one of the best RC models/engines out there imho ...

That engine is also a 4 stroke which also alters the sound from the normal 2 stroke variety. It also reduces the power output substantially.

But there is no replacement for displacement either!!!

BTW I like P51's

I believe the sound is the real sound of the engine, but if you listen close you will hear that the sound level doesn't change rather the plane is flying left to right or straight-in or straight-away from the pilot, note the climb-out at 2.06 and how far the plane gets from the pilot yet the sound level is the same
