Recently had to replace the broken clutch and bell liner on my T-REX 600N. Since the replacement, the OS 55HZ engine needs to rev higher to engage the clutch as shown in the video. Is this normal with a new stock Align clutch and blue liner? Have considered the “pop can” liner upgrade, but prior to the replacement, the results of the stock clutch and liner were fine. As is, the helicopter flies great, even though the throttle stick is slightly above the 1/3 position instead of the previous 1/4 position. Also, as shown in the video, the CCW rotation on hover was due to a link screw that fell out from the tail rotor holder just prior to shooting the video. Go figure.

Too much clearance between the liner and clutch. I believe the clutch will fail sooner when the gap is too large.

You are running the risk of over flexing the clutch shoes. You want .010 " clearance on each side or a total .020 " difference between outside diameter of shoes and inside diameter of the clutch bell.

Is it common that a new clutch, new liner, same clutch bell does not have the appropriate clearance? I will disassemble it again and measure the clearance. When the new liner was glued in place the outer part of the clutch was temporarily covered with one wrap of electric tape to hold the liner in place. Two wraps would have been snug. Is a break-in period required for a new clutch and liner?

yes and no it depends on how you cleaned the bell housing
dry fit the new liner before gluing to see if it needs to be shimmed

I shim mine so it has 1 mm of clearance all around
it should grab at a 1/4 stick. half stick it is almost worn out.
or one light hot start

spending time, paying attention

As I recall electrical tape is about .007". That if used properly would have resulted in a slightly tight clutch. Something does not add up.
