Great vid- thank you. It's amazing how far we've come yet how almost 30 years ago looks very similar to a funfly today. Respect to those guys who pioneered this awesome hobby for us.

How about the advancement of the E Z up. Those old pop ups looks like they blew down a lot.

Fun times

JC
Thanks for posting !
I was not at the one in 88 . I did recognize a lot of people though .
They are all old now .
I was at several Merced fun fly's after that .
A great time in my life !

I still can't believe I hit that card table.... I think a little bit of luck fell in my favor that day.

Every one back then had respect for each other and there equipment, nothing was ever stolen, people did not touch with out asking first. I do not miss waiting for my pin to open.

card table landing

I remember when dave Storey was living in calif , I challenged him to auto the card table 10 for 10 and I`d give him $100

he didn`t make it but it was fun watching.

Very cool vid..good to see that "old time" funfly feel! hearing the announcer touting flybarless was a hoot.

old days flybarless without flybarless gyro

What was the heli and radio setup like ? I assume the heli was twitchy.

do you use a lot of servo travel, expo heavy blades ?

Most people would run a lot of servo travel for resolution
blades were in the 190 to 200 grams each
and no expo

but just like today different people different preferences

Robert Gorham is a member on here maybe he will pop in
and clarify some stuff ??

LOT easier now, no real need for revo mix, set pitch curve in all 3 flight modes and the throttle curves too, Then if you changed the blades it changed everything.

RG flying fbl at the end was worth watching some of the vid up to about minute 25 and everything up to the end, spooky seeing all the eighties gear. Dig those tarp on 4 poles with anchor ropes can't really call them pop ups shelters, probably before pop ups were invented.

The helis these days and most of the new flyers are very much out of touch with the pioneering days of fm and nothing but nitro rc helis, let alone today's flyers having even been born.

The auto landing on the table was cool.
