![]() rrElite Veteran Killeen, Texas - USA | OK... so why do we have these:Having a Black Music Festival?Black Entertainment Television? NAACP? Black history month?(this also goes for Latinos/Hispanics and even Asian communities that have dozens of such racially identified organizations)If we have services, festivals, award ceremonies, or competitions where only "blacks" or other minorities are essentially allowed to take part in... is that not racist?if we can have events and services such as those listed above... then by the very nature of what we see as "fair and equal" there should be:a White Music Festival? White Entertainment Television? NAAWP? White History Month?I ask this provocative question due to the strange nature of our society and the double standards we live by where this behavior is constantly being reinforced by our very actions to bring forth equality... why do we have to list race or "color" on many state and federal forms? are we not perpetuating the very thing that is dividing us?Are we doomed to separate ourselves by "color" no matter what we do? Can it be that it is simply human nature to identify ourselves into groups based on belief and appearance which will always lead to some form of racist behavior? showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

![]() rrElite Veteran Killeen, Texas - USA | cause "history" behind it...Another example: why was the movie "White Chicks" where the Wayans brothers were dressed and made to look like dumb rich white girls not seen as a racist movie?... (it was funny as hell BTW)what would have happened if you got the Hemsworth brothers Chris and Liam (Thor and Hunger games guys)... to dress up and look like black rappers?... would that not be fair?now you see my point...showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Witch.Duk rrNovice Indianapolis, IN | Personally, I would prefer the pendulum begin to swing back toward the center where these types of events would be viewed in the same light as past discrimination against blacks and people of color. But as a white guy, I don't feel it's my place to dictate how a group of people who suffered discrimination should conduct themselves.I do think America has become a more tolerant society, but this election has certainly set us back a few years.I would like to hear views from minorities here on RR.Having a Black Music Festival?

![]() rrApprentice You guesss | Most of the time, I just enjoy making you guys go nuts. But now and then, I have something to actually say. This has nothing to do with Trump or Hillary. This is a guy who has taken advantage of the best this country has to offer, and then bitches about it. If he wants to make a statement, use some of his money to get his opinion out there. This country does not STAND for racism. But there is racism here. I agree he has a right to voice his opinion. Just like the NFL has the right not to ever see him play again. With everything, there are consequences.

![]() rrApprentice You guesss | I would also like to say that the US is about the ONLY country that has to feel bad for its past mistakes. All you hear black people talk about is slavery. Not a single one of them has ever been a slave. Although they like to talk about how having a job makes them a slave. Well join the big ass club, we all are slaves in that my friends. The term african american to me is unpatriotic. None of these people are from africa. My wife is from scotland, got into america the right way, through the immigration system, and is now an american citizen. Has a job, and pays taxes. She is a scottish american, and that is not debatable.

Witch.Duk rrNovice Indianapolis, IN | I agree, race should not matter. I only asked because you mentioned you belong to a minority. And you're right, I would not likely be welcomed to certain areas of Chicago, although I have visited some areas of NYC that I expected not be welcome, but turns out it wasn't an issue.I also agree the media plays a role in race relations. I don't know if it's intentional, but the result is the same. As for the government, we elect people to these positions, so if we don't like the results, we have all the power to change it. It's not quick or easy, but certainly doable.I did re-read your original post in this thread. I believe many of these events would be considered as much, or more, about culture versus race. Thoughts?Res ipsa loquitur.

![]() rrElite Veteran Killeen, Texas - USA | ... I think the issue is that culture is tied directly to race and vise versa in the minds of those that choose to be part of any such event... so if we dont match up culture wise, we cant identify racially either as what the group deems it to be.funny story:My son was singing a song by CHAMILLIONAIRE, "Ridin'"... he was like 10 years old at the time... the lyrics are along the lines of "They see me rollin,They hatin Patrolling they tryin to catch me ridin dirty...Tryin to catch me ridin dirty"but my son was singing it as "they trying to catch me white and nerdy"...I laughed so hard I farted in the car... but it shows how culture and race are somewhat inseparable on many levels... it almost as if we feel that without similar circumstances based on skin color that we can never empathize with another.when the issue is not circumstance but rather choice in actions...the events I outlined in the OP I feel further reinforce racial divide... I cannot participate in any of "those" events cause my skin color does not match up... showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
