I keep seeing these classifieds for folks spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars and in a short time (as short as two weeks ?) they are placing their stuff up for sale.....

The ad usually contains terms like :

"never crashed", "your gain is my loss" , " hundreds of dollars in parts included", etc, etc, etc.......

So the question begs to be asked....... Why do people do that ???

Just curious........

I know I'll get a few smart aleck answers like "because they can", etc., and that's fine but I'm just curious why people do that (logic ?).....

PS-- I could easily link a half dozen or so recent classifieds but my intent is NOT to start any crap.....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

This is only my speculation based on mentoring many newbie pilots

They're overwhelmed with the commitment & the complexity of this hobby and decided to make a untimely exit.

.... simply: Expectation & Mindset

Scott,

Maybe true in some cases but the ones that I've seen would lead me to believe they are not "newbs" making a mistake and wanting to bail out.....

Lots of answers

there are lots of reasons. Here are some I hear:
1. My wife found out how much I spent.
2. I changed jobs and have no time.
3. I found something I like better.
4. I keep tearing things up.
5. My ADHD kicked in.
6. I want a different helicopter...radio..etc.
7. I bought a motorcycle.
8. I'm going back to airplanes.
9. I'm really into quad racing.
10. Just lost interest.
I'm sure there are a hundred more.

BINGO!

by something... its really cool, but a bigger one is more so...buy that, then see a jetCat model, hey buy that with the kidney i sold...

its our (mens) version of womens obsession with expensive shoes and purses...

but in this case they cant afford to keep buying the next fad...so they sell to fund another conquest.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I think a lot of it is "Buy low, Sell high" maybe they are negotiating a price and getting the stuff lower then you realize and then trying to flip it back here on RR.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

"Yeah but it looks so cool and easy to fly on the video" I want one ! I know a guy that shall remain nameless who keeps buying and selling guitars ---not for profit but somewhere in his mind he's saying---if I could just get the perfect guitar I will finally be able to play Great, not fully realizing the endless hours of repetition and practice it's really takes to get good---that's waaaay too much work.

In the guitar forums they call it GAS.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

In the boat world, As you might know, it's call 3 foot IDUS.

The only true wealth is contentment.

And I agree, buying stuff is not enough to constitute a life style / happiness.

I guess it's true for any hobby. I've seen guys play with soul on a beat-up old acoustic and floor me, and heard young whipperSnappers with the best equipment in the world ---- sound like Crap

Maybe somewhere after being a beginner and being very experienced you get into a period where you are more picky about how a heli feels in the air but you can't quite pinpoint exactly the feel you are looking for. One thing about this hobby is you can't just try something before you buy it, that includes radios, electronic components, and helis, unless someone else lets you try theirs. At least with a guitar you can go to the shop and get your hands on it for as long as you want. So I can see buying in this hobby and not being satisfied with your purchase. As far as I know vendors don't accept returns unless it's defective, even then you only get store credit. So it's the buy before you try route for many, if you can afford it, lol.

With the advent of flight simulators many people believe what they do on the screen translates into the real world. This in most cases is far from reality and they become discouraged quickly. Than on the other hand they are an accomplished pilot and need funding to move forward.

I think some of it has to do with the idea that better (or in this case more expensive) gear will make up for a lack in skill...

after was that not the general buzz behind FBL when it came out?

have crappy collective management...go from 6S to a 12S setup... dont know how to recover, Auto or figure out how to hit TH...get bailout feature... Dont know how to manage Nitro tuning...go electric.... dont know how to setup anything or Fly get a PnP Drone... dont know your left from your right, get a GPS feature...

and on and on it goes with those with more money than skill...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

It's not the helicopter it's the pilot

Next time you want to buy the latest and greatest, watch this and ask, "can I fly that well with the heli I own now?" Time, patience and practice with what you own. Flybarred or not.
